Best’s Great Western 2016 ‘Gentle Blend’ Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Muscat.

Made from grapes sourced off our own Riesling blocks and Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Muscat from a passionate local grower. The blend is inspired by the great classic white blends of the noble varieties in Alsace, France.

Best’s also have a long history of producing superb blended aromatic white wines including some of these varieties. We are lucky enough to have these varieties for this blend growing in Great Western and with the quality of the fruit for 2016 we were motivated to make a wine with these varieties.

Grape Variety Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Orange Muscat

Alcohol 11.5 %

Colour Pale straw with silver hints.

Bouquet Heady aromas of rose petals, orange rind, cucumber and ginger.

Palate The freshness of Muscat and Traminer dance along with the white fruit of the Gris, which gives some breadth to the mouthfeel. The citrus line of the Riesling pulls it together and draws it to a close.

Cellaring The aromatic characteristics of this wine are best appreciated in the short to medium term, but this wine will gain complexity over the next ten years or so. Drink now to 2026.

Vintage The vineyard set off to a rapid start with ideal conditions for budburst and a warm spring for fruit set. The summer was mainly warm and dry. There were a few hot spells, but adequate foliage ensured the vines remained in good health. The earlier than normal vintage period provided good ripening and harvest conditions with clear warm days that cooled off at night.
