Faster is always good – and remote is even better. htp uses the ADVA Add-Drop System for its Carrier network

Founded in 1996, htp now ranks among ’s top performing regional carriers. The company operates a wide fiber optic network across the region, offering high-performance data links to business and private custo- mers. For even greater network efficiency, htp now relies on the ADVA ROADM solution, allowing new links to be simply added or re-routed – no major allocation of staff required. This allows htp to respond to customer requests even faster and more flexibly.

A good base

Customer: htp and ADVA Optical Networking – certainly not a first. The Hanover carrier htp has been using the optical transport solutions of the Meiningen WDM speci- alist for many years. The new ADVA FSP-3000 platform, the first 400 GBit/s Sector: data transmission module implemented on a single, compact subassembly, is Telecommunication services currently in use. Integrated encryption options will also, if required, ensure that the data are reliably protected against unauthorized access. Challenge: htp meanwhile has a very wide optical network in the Hanover, , Flexible and high-performance and Wolfenbüttel service area, comprising more than 800 DWDM network technical locations. Requests for cross connections were thus far generally handled as follows: Travelling to the locations and setting up additional WDM dacoso solution: systems. Add and Drop ROADM advantages A ROADM is a re-configurable optical Add-Drop multiplexer that adds or diverts • flexible and simple remote (drops) wavelengths on several glass fiber lines in a wide area network. Prior simulation

htp was able to resort to some of its existing ADVA sys- tems for ROADM implementation. The Carrier team took charge of the installation and operation of the new so- lution, with dacoso attendance and support: The entire ROADM scenario was simulated in advance in the dacoso laboratory in Langen. A worthwhile effort to ensure that all the potential sources of error could be remedied be- forehand. The dacoso technicians thereafter trained the htp team on the demo version, passing on their expertise in the Add-Drop multiplexer. “Faster is always good, of course, and remote is even better”, explains Achim Garbe, network planning manager at htp. “Network stability nevertheless remains top priority. Our pilot tests in the dacoso laboratory, however, gave us the con- fidence that the new solution will work. It is reassuring to have the dacoso team ready to provide backup during live operation.”
