Bilbao kommt von Bilbo und bedeutet “das Schwert”. Bilbao liegt im Baskenland. 1957 war es eine verdreckte und verrauchte Stadt an der Ría del Nervión. Schwerindustrie kennzeichnete das Bild. Mir gefällt Bilbao sehr, auch das Guggenheim Museum, eine wunderbare Hülle. Die Kindheit in Algorta, jenem schönen Fischerdorf mit Villen um die Jahrhundertwende, kopiert von den englischen Villen in Portsmouth, war für mich herrlich. Nachmittags nach den Hausaufgaben ging ich an den Strand von Ereaga, fing Garnelen bei Ebbe ein. Bei Flut angelte ich an der Mole, dem Faro. Wie schön sind der Etxetxu im Puerto Viejo und die Punta Galea. Eine bessere Kindheit hätte ich nicht haben können. Meine Mutter stammt aus Bückeburg jener hübschen Residenzstadt in Schaumburg Lippe. Geboren ist sie in Berlin im Jahre 1934. Wenn dieser Text ermüden sollte, so bitte ich um Verzeihung, aber gewisse Personen wollten, dass alles sehr kompliziert und unverständlich erscheint. Um zu erklären, dass alles gar nicht so kompliziert war, muss die vermeintliche Kompliziertheit entwirrt und entflochten werden. Es hat seinen Reiz, fordert aber auch eine erhebliche Kraftanstrengung. Die konstruierte Kompliziertheit ist, wenn sie als solche enttarnt ist, interessant. Gelingt der Durchblick, so stellt sich heraus, dass Vieles ganz einfach und verständlich war. In diesem Buch versuche ich, im Rahmen meiner Möglichkeiten,Tatsachen darzustellen die vermutlich sehr oft in der Geschichte der Menschheit geschehen sind und geschehen werden. Meine Tätigkeit nenne ich: Dekonstruktion und Rekonstruktion . Ein spanischer Freund und Rechtsanwalt sagte mir im März 2001: “Die Wirklichkeit übertrifft bei weitem die Fiktion” und ein deutscher Jurist sagte wenig später: “die Realität übertrifft die kühnste Fantasie”. Es geht hier um die Darstellung einer fast perfekt inszenierten, gründlichen und lautlosen Reduktion von Individuen, ein makabres Ballett mit vielen Akteuren und Statisten, ein komplizierter Tanz, dessen Schritte einer “biologischen” Logik folgen. Das Ziel: die “Entfernung” bestimmter Personen aus dem Schachbrett, gleichgültig ob Familie oder nicht, insbesondere aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen. Denn es geht immer nur um Macht und Eigentum. Und diese Abläufe fanden und finden stets im Verborgenen statt. Es geht um Demontage und Reduktion und Liquidierung. Es geht mir um die Darstellung eines Auflösungsverfahrens im weitesten Sinne. Wenn ich von Auflösung spreche, so meine ich das fast im chemischen Sinne, im Sinne von biologischer Verwesung. Technisch werde ich vom vorgetäuschten Auflösungsverfahren des Hausguts des Hauses Schaumburg-Lippe sprechen. Ein solches Verfahren gab es in Wahrheit nicht. Wolrad irrte nicht, als er von seinem im Ausland lebenden Bruder Stephan sagte: “Vom Ausland aus, kann er sich keinen Überblick über die Umstände in Bückeburg verschaffen”. Heute würde er irren. Dank Internet und dank mancher Archive kann vieles erforscht werden, von jedem Ort der Welt aus. 8 Vorbermerkung Ich habe einen Teil an Dokumentation durch die entgegenkommende Unterstützung diverser Archive erhalten. Es fand aber auch ein zäher Kampf gegen Verwahrer von gehaltvollen Akten statt. Nicht wenig Information musste den Hütern von Information abgerungen werden.Viel Information wurde zurückgehalten. Sie wird dem Leser für immer vorenthalten. Manche Hüter taufte ich “die prätorianische Garde”. Sie wissen, dass sie gemeint sind. Denjenigen, die mir sehr geholfen haben, danke ich tausendfach. Auch sie wissen, dass sie gemeint sind. Ich wollte den Dingen auf den Grund gehen.Wenige Tage vor seinem Tod, am 19 Oktober 1952, schrieb mein Grossvater auf einen Bogen Papier: “Um Gottes Willen, diese Sache nicht auf sich beruhen lassen”. Das Schriftstück fand ich durch Zufall. Bevor jemand auf die Idee kommt, einen solchen Gedanken zu hinterlassen, soll er sich dessen bewusst sein, dass er Jahrzehnte später, Energien freisetzen kann. Der Gedanke kann ein gefährlicher Auslöser sein, ähnlich einem Blindgänger. Dieses Buch ist meine Gegendarstellung. Es ist riskant, weil ich befürchten muss, von der einen oder anderen Person verklagt zu werden. Ich habe mich bemüht, gewissenhaft und umfangreich zu recherchieren. Ich habe alles getan, was mir möglich war, um dem Vorwurf zu entgehen, das Andenken Verstorbener zu verunglimpfen, verleumdet oder mich der üblen Nachrede schuldig gemacht zu haben. Deshalb habe ich in manche Kapitel bis in das letzte Detail, juristische Ausführungen eingebaut, die erklären sollen, worauf ich meine Behauptungen stütze. Derartige Ausführungen sind ermüdend. Wer möchte, soll diese Passagen überlesen. Sie gehören aber dorthin, damit “namhafte” presserechtlich spezialisierte Rechtsanwälte, die Veröffentlichung dieses Diskussionsbeitrages nicht unterbinden können. Ich habe es abgelehnt, den Text von dritten Personen nachbessern, korrigieren oder redigieren zu lassen, weil ich einen authentischen Text produzieren wollte. Mein Grossvater und ich sind in gewisser Weise Zeugen. Er war Zeuge bis 1952. Ich wurde Zeuge der Gegenwart. Ich bitte den wohlgesonnenen Leser um Nachsicht für Zeichensetzungs-, Rechtschreibungs-, Ausdrucks- und Grammatikfehler. NEW HAVEN, CONN. TO MY PARENTS Preface The dawn of the twentieth century witnessed the climax of imperialistic competition in Europe among the Great Pow­ ers. Entrenched in two opposing camps, they glared at each other over mountainous stockpiles of weapons gathered in feverish armament races. In the one camp was situated the Triple Entente, in the other the Triple Alliance of the Central Powers under Germany's leadership. The final and tragic re­ sult of this rivalry was World War I, during which Germany attempted to realize her imperialistic conception of M itteleuropa with the Berlin-Baghdad-Basra railway project to the Near East. Thus there would have been established a transcontinental highway for German industrial and commercial expansion through the Persian Gull to the Asian market. The security of this highway required that the pressure of Russian imperi­ alism on the Middle East be eliminated by the fragmentation of the Russian colonial empire into its ethnic components. Germany· planned the formation of a belt of buffer states ( asso­ ciated with the Central Powers and Turkey) from Finland, Beloruthenia ( Belorussia), Lithuania, Poland to Ukraine, the Caucasus, and even to Turkestan. The outbreak and nature of the Russian Revolution in 1917 offered an opportunity for Imperial Germany to realize this plan.

I am conducting the first interview with Mr. Paul Leeser in my office at the Temple. Mr. Leeser lives in Richmond, Indiana. This is Wednesday afternoon, August 23, 1978. Mr. Leeser, how old are you? A: Fifty- seven. Q: Where were you born? A: In a city in the Rhineland (Germany) called, at that time, Hanborn(spelled by PL). Today it is a suburb of a larger city called Duisburg (Duisburg is again spelled by PL). It is called today: “Duisburg-Hanborn.” They are both in the Rhineland tare? Part of the German State of Westphalia. Q: Did you grow up there? A: My early years I spent in Hanborn. I went to school there. Then, when I was not quite in high school, that was in 1927 or 1928, we left the Rhineland and moved inland because my parents bought a business there. I continued my education in a little town called Rinteln which is on the Weser River near the town of Hameln in the district of Minden, at the time. The city, today is in the district of Hanover. I continued my grade school education there and had my first religious training. That is religious school and Hebrew school, etc.

This price surge, however, did not take place evenly in space and time. To better understand the spatial and temporal behavior of land prices, we employ a price diffusion model that combines features of market integration models and spatial econometric models. An application of this model to farmland prices in Germany shows that prices on a county-level are cointegrated. Apart from convergence towards a long- run equilibrium, we find that price transmission also proceeds through short-term adjustments caused by neighboring regions.
