Vs Western Springs LOTTO NRFL Division 1 2.45pm Manurewa AFC Club Rooms P.O. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 Welcome to Western Springs who sit in second spot for Northern League Division one. Last Sundays result wasn’t what we wanted but I have to say that the signs are there and with some accurate shooting and passing the result could have been a lot different. To both sides keep the effort up and I look forward to the start of the second round. I am positive we will start to see the results we as members, coaches and players want. A reminder that it is the second round of the Chatham Cup against Hibiscus Coast away on Monday 2nd June at 2pm. So folks think about the trip up again and hopefully a change in results. Sorry to see the Division Six side disbanded but to those who gave it a go well done. Hopefully something to work on for next year. I’m looking forward to seeing a game at home this week after being away for awhile. Sometimes work gets in the road of sport. Good luck to all sides, enjoy your sport. Firstly, we went down to rivals Papatoetoe 2-1, got knocked out of the main draw of the reserve cup by Metro on penalties and then got our backsides whipped by North Shore going down 5-0. Today will be another test of character as we face Western Springs who have similar results and are just ahead of us on the points table. It is vital that we get a result today to stay in touch with the frontrunners of the competition. Despite the loss at North Shore, it was pleasing to see the boys lift for the second half as we were 4-0 down at the break and with us having a player sent off early in the second half, things could have been a lot worse. What our players need to understand that the game goes for 90 minutes and not 45 minutes. The frustrating thing was that we should have been 2 or 3 up after a short period of time and that would have knocked North Shore. I'm sure we would have been able to finish them off but we failed to capitalize on the chances that we created. So hopefully today we can turn it around and enjoy a nice cold one with 3 points but we are going to have to work hard. Good luck to all Manurewa teams for this weekend and will see you afterwards. I’m sure he will now be looking to push for promotion this season and take on the best Auckland Football has to offer next year. We also wish Neil well with the All Whites. There’s a great crop of young talent being produced these days and hopefully NZF can give him a chance to get the best out of them and give us a chance to take an extended holiday to the Russia 2018. I hear it’s lovely over there these days… As for our team, last week epitomised our season. We played some good football for the majority of the match and were controlling the game and created some clear chances. Then a lack of composure and a team-wide brain-fade saw two soft goals conceded and a 3 points dropped which pulled us back down in the relegation battle. Consistency is key in this league and we will need better performances from everyone week-in, week-out to pick up points and get us up where we feel we should be. Until that happens, this is going to be another long season. It is with regret that we have had to remove the Div 6 team from competition as they have found it hard to put a team together each week. Although we have tried each week, it just didn’t happen. The rest of the teams have done well with 3 wins 1 loss and 1 postponed last week. The ladies having the biggest win 5-1 against Pukekohe, well done girls The first team and the reserves both didn’t enjoy playing on a Sunday with both going down 2-1 and 5-0. Let’s hope they can both turn it around this week against Western Springs. On the 31st May we are away to Melville and there is a bus going down, leaving at 9.30am and returning around 8pm.
