Vs Hibiscus Coast

LOTTO NRFL Division 1 19 July 2014 2.45pm

Manurewa AFC Club Rooms P.O. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 Welcome to Hibiscus Coast first team and Reserves to Memorial Park Manurewa.

It has now been two weeks without a game and with the current weather patterns we could still be playing at Labour weekend. To all teams thank you for helping out and making life a little easier by holding back on training and keeping off the fields. For the youth and juniors having school holidays could not have been better.

To the top side this well be your third game against Hibiscus Coast this season so this will be a good gauge as to where we will sit as the season progresses.

Also at home today at the same time is our over 30’s and 35’s so plenty happening at the park today.

With all teams assigned their raffle tickets please make the effort to sell them. The prizes are great and this is the icing on the cake which enables us to keep the club running. As you can see some property maintenance and decorating isn’t far away again. We are still working with council on ground plans and building ownership. It will take time but with Jellicoe Park to go ahead off season the team is making small inroads.

Thanks to ball girls and boys.

See you at the game

Its been a frustrating couple of weeks for the reserve side with games postponed due to the inclement weather we have been having.

This week we face a Hibiscus Coast side who sit on 13 points whilst we sit on 16, but also sit 4 places below us. This tells a story in itself how congested the bottom half of the draw is in relation to points, and one slip up against these sides allows the pack to get even tighter.

Hibiscus will be fuming as they let a 2-0 lead slip away a fortnight ago against Papatoetoe eventually losing 3-2, and we will need to make sure that we start well, especially not having played for a couple of weeks if we want to take the 3 points.

I’m sure the boys will be up for it if their remarks when receiving the texts that the games have been postponed from Anja are anything to go by, and I could see they were itching to play when we had a hit out against the under 19s on Tuesday night.

Good luck to all Manurewa sides this weekend and will see you afterwards.

First Team Coaches Comments Hi all, welcome back to Memorial Park for our match against Hibiscus Coast. It’s been a while since the boys have been able to take the field with this particularly bad Auckland weather, so everyone is looking forward to getting out and actually playing.

A guy who really wants to play this week is Pablo Yackson, coincidentally conspired against to miss the majority of the last two encounters against Hibiscus Coast, he will be looking to have a big impact this week.

We have met Hibiscus Coast twice already this season, with a sending off affecting the first match and a single goal to Hibiscus Coast in extra time separating the tie. I’m sure both teams know the other to some degree, so this one will is sure to be a tight affair.

The second round may only be 2 games in, but it has seen us really turn a corner with our performances, especially in the effort and commitment department. Against Mangere, we felt we deserved the 3 points with more than 10 clear cut opportunities created, but our finishing left a lot to be desired and is something we will work on as the season continues. We welcomed Steve Ashby (pictured) back to the club and he reminded us what he can do, with a good finish to earn the point, and will look to push for more goals and assists the rest of the way in. If we can keep creating the chances, we will start banging them in eventually. As long as the effort and commitment is there week-in week-out, you’ll certainly keep the coaching staff happy, and the results will take care of themselves.

We also welcome back Marvin Eakins who returned from a few weeks off in Brazil watching the World Cup to feature for the Futsal Whites in the Trans-Tasman Cup last week. The club is proud to have such a high calibre player and person leading us out week in week out, congrats Marv. Here’s hoping there aren’t any more futsal tournaments scheduled for the next couple of months…

Writing this 3 days out from the game, I’m going to assume the pitch is in pristine condition and ready to host a great example of football. Hope everyone has brought their moulds…

Thanks,

Nath, H & Mark

OVER 30’s

Hi all.

Our over 30s this season have had a mixed season so far this year. With half the season gone we are mid table with a game in hand.

Our season would be better if we didn't have a habit of hitting the post or cross bar and having a few of our boys out with injuries. At one stage I think there was 7 of us out. But after our last 4 games we have won 2 and only lost 1 to the league leaders by 1-0 and we hit the post in that game and drawing 3 weeks ago with Unimount. We are home this week to .

Good luck to army Nathan and H this week and will catch up after the game for a beer.

Manurewa O35’s 2014

After much deliberation, pondering and soul searching this group of tired, retired and broken ex-footballers decided it was time to give birth to an Over 35’s team within the club. The birth of the inaugural over 35’s team occurred on the 5th April 2014.

With a keen, enthusiastic group of 18 (6 extra needed for injuries and softness) the season kicked off with 2 loses. After such a great start training was postponed and the next four games were won with a little grit, determination and lot of sledging. Three losses followed with injuries the major feature of those three weeks. Back on track the next week with a 2 nil win over a team we lost to in the first round.

With the return of Brian Feldtman from his unannounced trip to the motherland, we can only look forward to better things. Apart from some inspirational play from our bunch of experienced players, our highlight so far has to be the four wins in the clubrooms totalling $200.00 in bar tabs.

The team would like to acknowledge the continued support of Keith Moyle of Auckland Electrical.

Duncan White LADIES REPORT

Our last game 2 weeks ago saw us playing at home. We managed to field the bare 11 players due to injuries and sickness and played with heart and pride.

The line up was a defensive one and I was proud of the team when we came away with a 3 nil win over a very strong opposition. Christina Judd and Shannon Stratford were joint players of the day and Natalie Lamb (2) and Stacey McCarthy were the goal scorers. Kamera Tucker and Renae Hubbard had strong defensive games. Well done team.

Due to the weather, our last 2 games were postponed. Tomorrow we are home to Papatoetoe AFC.

Robynne Hubbard Coach Youth Report

Our last round of games were played the last weekend of June and we were very surprised that games went ahead with all the rain that fell on the Thursday, Friday and early hours of Saturday morning.

We had a mixed bag of results with 8 wins, 3 draws and 8 losses. Not too bad considering the conditions.

16th Pumas had a 1—0 win at home to Papatoetoe. Their captain Aaron Dormer suffered a serious injury 2 minutes into the game and is now on crutches with a fractured hip and facing the end of his season. Aaron, we wish you a speedy recovery.

Team photos during that week went well with all youth teams turning out for photos. To many, it looked like ciaos but it was organised ciaos. Thanks to coaches and managers for getting their teams organised and orders and money in on the night.

Our next big event will be Prizegiving on 20 September. More information will be forwarded via team coaches and managers.

Remember to get your raffle tickets sold and back to your coaches as soon as possible.

Best of luck to Hoani, Mark and Nathan and the boys today and to other Rewa teams as well.

Junior Team Photos

We had a great mix of junior and youth teams along for their photos. Some discussion over boots, cleanliness and of course the odd parent or five who try to pay committee rather than the coach but all in good fun. From the committees we took advantage to hand out raffle tickets to teams not yet got theirs.
