The MELVILLE UNITED FOOTBALL Academy provides a unique opportunity for young players to accelerate their development and reach their potential as footballers.

The programme aims to replicate the model used in professional European academies by combining elite level coaching with an advanced training programme.

The academy provides elite level players with a regular and consistent programme while still balancing their training load with their school football and extra curricular commitments. HOW IS THE ACADEMY STRUCTURED? The Academy is open to players in 14th grade age group from any club .

The Academy is designed to be an elite programme and will work on the princicipal of having the best local players training and playing with each other. Due to the elite nature of the Academy, entry onto the programme is by selection only and designed for players who have already demonstrated an ability to perform and develop at an advanced level.

By grouping the best local players together, the Academy provides an opportunity for players who are already at an advanced level to challenge and stretch each others devleopment.

The Academy team will play in the Waibop Federation 14th grade compeition. There is a requirement that all players register with Melville United Football Club in order to be eligable for this competition. ACADEMY BENEFITS The primary aim of the Melville United Football Academy is to ensure ALL members improve and develop as players. At the completion of their time on the academy programme we want every player to be able to play at the highest level they possibly can.

Through our extensive network of contacts around the world we are able to provide the following playing and training opportunities.

• Training and trialling opportunities in the UK academy system. • ASB Premiership, National Youth League and Northern League. • Professional and semi-professional playing opportunities in the UK, Australia and America. • American college scholarship opportunities. • Full time University training programmes in Hamilton and . • Auckland FTC and National NTC preperation. HOW LONG DOES THE ACADEMY RUN FOR? The Academy training programme will run all year round, with a Sunday games programme running through terms 2 and 3. There will be additional game days in term 1 and 4. LOCATION Gower Park, Hamilton. WHAT IS THE COST OF THE ACADEMY PROGRAMME? $1100 + GST per year. ACADEMY DIRECTORS SAM WILKINSON A former Melville United, FC and Auckland City player, Sam recently returned to after six years of coaching in the English Academy system. During that time Sam worked at West Bromwich Albion FC as the U14 coach and more recently at Birmingham City FC as the full time U16 coach. Sam is a holder of the UEFA A License and the English FA Youth Award and has a degree in Physical Education. Sam is currently First Team Co-head coach and a Football Development Ofcer for Melville United.

MICHAEL MAYNE A former Melville United Player, Waikato FC & Waitakere United national league player, and NZ age group representative, Michael has returned to the Waikato after 8 years living in Auckland. Michael holds a degree in Coaching and Physical Education and the OFC B License. His most recent coaching roles include the NZ U20 Women and leading Waitemata FC to back-to-back promotions to the NRFL Division 1. Michael is currently First Team Co-head coach and a Football Development Ofcer for Melville United.
