As Willy Gerdsen turned his focus to the Canterbury Premiership, this left the coaching of the Premiers in the capable hands of Matt Pitts and Rod Grove. The team put in some good performances and held their own with top of the table teams. Dylan Stansfield narrowly missed out on Golden Boot for the NRFL Premier League but was a deserved Player of the Year and Golden Boot for the team. Michael Kolston was Young Player of the Year and Players Player. Some players moved onto the Summer Premiership Teams, Dylan Stansfield to Waitakere, Judd Baker to Hamilton Wanderers, Michael Kolston and Michael Williams to Waitakere Youth; Lewis Tiller to Hawkes Bay and Codey Rickard to Auckland City Youth. The Development Team, coached by Hyun Roh, was a creditable 5th and continues to be a team which acts as a catalyst for the promotion of the club youth to senior football. New Zealand Football is now entering Stage 2 of the NZF National Competitions review and are calling for feedback to their Consultation Document by 9 December 2016. Out of the Senior teams, ECB Olla won Division 6 Cup and Cosmos won the Over 35s Division 1 League. The junior teams performed well with the Under 17s, coached by Sam Coley and Jeoff Healey, winning their league for the third year in a row. Tel Sheehey’s 15th Metro team received the Albany Wairau Cup for being the top finishing Northern Federation Team. ECB Fisher won the 17th Division 2 Cup. Jassen Elliott’s Development Team were successful in winning the NFF 13th Division 1 League, earning themselves a place in the 14th Conference League for 2017. J. Daw’s team was successful in winning the local 13th Division 1 League and was promoted to the 13th Conference League winning this league as well. This is a notable achievement as all the players are playing one or two years above their age group. In addition to this these particular players and other players from the club made up the majority of the Northcross Intermediate team who won the Aims national intermediate schools tournament. ECB Evans won the 12th Division 2 Cup and ECB Manolas won the 12th Division 4 Cup. No tables are kept for the 9th and 10th Grades. All the top teams participated in local and regional tournaments, the U17s and U13s won the Northland Tournament; the 11th Grade won the Auckland Suburbs Cup; the U10s won the Manurewa Championship; the U9s won the Mangere Championship. Many players were honoured with places in the Northern Football Federation and New Zealand Football Representative training squads. Of note here is the development of Anna Leat who was selected for the New Zealand Under 17 wider squad for the Oceania Qualifiers in January 2016 in Raratonga; the China tour in July 2016 versus Japan, China and Canada and, as the starting goalkeeper, for the New Zealand U17 team in the Fifa U17 World Cup in September 2016. Anna was also selected for the - 4 - Ferns squad to play for the New Zealand Invitational Team in February when Papua New Guinea pulled out of the Olympic qualifiers. Anna is currently training with the Football Ferns and is also the starting goalkeeper for the Northern Football Federation team in the National Women’s League. Northern Football Federation undertook a Strategic Plan review and agreed to refocus some of their activities. East Coast Bays were appointed by New Zealand Football to host one of the Skills Centres normally run by Northern Football Federation. This commenced in October and a total of 90 players are attending these Skills Centres. Midget Camps and Summer Camps for the U14/U15 and U17 commenced in November and ran for a 6 week duration. New Zealand Football rolled out the new Youth framework which provides an overview of the youth section of New Zealand Football’s Whole of Football Plan. It offers guidance around training and match day based on world’s best practice for both football and futsal. The ultimate goal of the Youth Framework is to provide youth boys and girls age 13 – 19 with a quality experience tailored to meet their needs in order to encourage them to play for a longer period. - 5 - BACKGROUND OF CLUB East Coast Bays Soccer Club is one of the largest soccer clubs in New Zealand with a membership of 1228 members, plus many supporters. The children get to see where they could be when they reach the same age. Excellent food and bar facilities are available to all members and their families. Two of our main objectives are: 1. To continue to improve our emphasis on youth development within the community. We closely liaise with local schools, providing coaches, training courses, resources and a venue for School Teams 2. Continued development of the home grounds and clubrooms into an all year round community complex. We are constantly in touch with the East Coast Bays Leisure Centre so that together we can accommodate all community groups. We also have Summer Football from November until March in the off season and Cricket and La Crosse from September until the end of March. In order to achieve our first objective we have put in place a number of innovations, which include: Coaching courses for Junior Coaches . Referees courses are also available for those interested. These courses are subsidised by the club. We would like all our coaches to undertake an introductory coaching course if they do not possess any formal qualifications. School holiday football sessions with full time coaching, videos, etc run by qualified coaches Encouragement for junior players and parents to become involved with the Premier Team, through barbecues, half-time midget games, ball boy systems and coaching clinics Establishing a system where players are promoted through the grades up to premier level according to ability Regular additional evening coaching and development sessions.
