In the league standings at this time, both 1st teams sit side by side and all it takes is a win to move away from the relegation zone. This will make for an enthralling encounter, for there will be a must willingness in all players to have a prepared attitude and give 100% to the final whistle in this game. Only one outcome is wanted. WIN Over the years there have been some great entertaining games played between our two proud South Auckland clubs. The history and heritage goes deep, as do the supporters. On game day there is rivalry but afterwards most know each other from the football community and the camaraderie and hospitality begins. The powerhouse days have gone and I do hope for both clubs’ sake, we build and rise up to be frontrunners again. It may take time, but both clubs need to be present and strong in this Football Federation competition. As Club President I give a huge thank you to our club committee and all member volunteers who week in week out strive to keep our club operations running smoothly, from junior youth to senior divisions. Very integral to PAPATOETOE A.F.C. in keeping this sound football club established. To our sponsors, we greatly acknowledge your contribution to PAPATOETOE A.F.C., you have all helped our club in many ways, and I do wish for these partnerships to continue in years to come. To club patrons, life members, members and visitors, I hope you enjoy this evening’s match fixtures and hospitality that follows inside our clubrooms. We welcome Manurewa A.F.C. coaching staff, players and supporters – enjoy your games and our after match hospitality. P.S. A Manurewa member named us the “MIGHTY MURDOCH PARK” WHO? Played a season for us under Peter Kelly as coach. David Owen 3 COACH’S COMMENTS Good evening all and welcome to this very big clash for both sides. Not only is this game important for the survival of both teams in Division 1 and to avoid relegation but also hold the bragging rights between the two clubs and South Auckland. We have had two fixtures since I last wrote and they were at home against Metro and away last week to Ellerslie. The Metro game was a game very important to us. Having a game in hand on them and being just 3 points behind them we knew we would want to get the points on offer. Metro knew as well just how important this game was for them also. As the game panned both ways however with Metro taking the shots they had on offer they came away with the win and claimed the points to push themselves that bit further away from relegation. Last week against Ellerslie we knew we would be up for a battle. Ellerslie are sitting well within the promotion hunt and would want to take the points in this game to keep within the hunt and be a contender. To the game itself and the early stages of the first half looked ok with the score being locked at 0-0. However just before halftime Ellerslie snatched a goal and went in at half 1 up. We knew that if we come out in the second half and score an early equalizer we could go on and have a good battle to take the game however Ellerslie went on to score 2 more goals and win 3-0. To today’s game and what is looked on as the important game for both teams not only is it the local derby game but more importantly both teams are vying to take the 3 points to push clear of relegation. We have worked hard in training this week to beset for this one and I am sure Manurewa have been as well. I am sure the lads will want to go out and give it 100% and do the job needed and come away at the end of 90 minutes with the 3 points. I can assure you will be in for an exciting tussle this evening between two clubs with such deep history and heritage within South Auckland and that both teams will show the pride they have for their suburbs as well as clubs. I would like to again thank you the supporters who come down week in week out to support the boys. Enjoy the game and see you all afterwards in the bar. Paul Margison (Margee)/ Hans Anema 4 RESERVE TEAM Welcome everyone to Murdoch Park and and a very warm welcome to the Manurewa players and supporters. Today will be an exciting day, as both clubs, with a long and proud history of football in South Auckland, are in an interesting position, where every point will count and every chance missed on the field will hurt. We'll both want to win, and although being near neighbours, on the field no love will be lost. Off the field will, I hope, be a different story as we share a beer together at the end of the game. In the Reserves game, we will certainly be trying to make it two out of two. Time and again, we have proven that when we make the effort, we can achieve results when we focus. Last week we played at Ellerslie at the same time of day, and certainly we lost our focus in the first half when we let in 3 goals. I think the amount of times we got into their half could almost count on our fingers. This wasn't helped by having players not turn up, leaving us weak up front. We can only put on the team we have, as they say, and it helps if we know who is turning up. But we also knew we had one or two players who couldn't turn up, and when Rarotonga beckons, you've got to go. After a bit of a rev up from Ingo at half time, we certainly picked up our game, and although we let one more in, we looked like we could've got something out of the game, if we had played with some heart in the first half. Let's hope we bring some of that into today's game The Sideline Team Roland/Ingo/Steven Reserves Last 3 Results: Reserves Next Game: Vs Ellerslie AFC: 4-0 Loss 10/8/14 Vs Mangere United Vs Hibiscus Coast: 2-1 Win Centre Park 12.30pm Kick off Vs Mt Albert Ponsonby: 2-1 Win 5 JUNIOR REPORT First Kicks 5TH & 6TH Grade For most of us it has been the first season with Papatoetoe AFC. The club has been friendly and very welcoming; there is so much passion among parents to develop young children to be the best they could be. Set of games and activities put together by NZ Football was a great way to get these kids started and get them interested. With support of Chelsea and Tayla and kids’ parents, I have ensured that every child entering the club and taking part in training and games has had fun and a rewarding experience at every stage while developing their skills as football players. Our first kicks had exposure to indoor soccer at Action Sport Manukau. We will be taking the 6th grade to an Invitational Tournament on 17th August at Three Kings United. I am very pleased to be involved with the club with such diverse ethnicity and awesome children. Since taking responsibility of looking after the first kicks, I have committed myself to put in full effort in developing the junior sparks of today to become Stars of football in future. A.Pratap Co coordinator/Coach, First Kicks Papatoetoe AFC Congratulations Saja Tautua Papatoetoe AFC Juniors are proud to inform the club that Saja Tautua of the 12th Grade Lightning team, has made the AFF Football Talent Centre training squad. His teammate Faaris Khan was called back for a second trial but was unfortunately unsuccessful. A warm welcome Albany United, your players, coaching staff and supporters who have crossed the bridge for today’s clash. This is an important game for both teams. We hope to see you all in the clubrooms after the game for our hospitality. I would like to also extend a warm welcome to our new sponsor Auckland Abrasive Blast and Coatings (2005) Ltd, as well as those who have supported us long and hard this season. The past fortnight our men’s team has had two big games. A fortnight ago the guys played in the Chatham Cup up at Stanmore Bay against Hibiscus Coast and although they didn’t come away victors they certainly gave it their all. In fact to the point a penalty shootout had to decide who would advance to the next cup round. A credit must go to Mark, Scotty, Preston and Sean, as well as the boys, for the efforts they are putting in this season.

I’m sure there’s a good reason why we do it... Management Our start to the season has been solid enough. Last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Takapuna was Jack Poole a real battle. It took us until mid-June to get our fi rst point in Auckland last season, so it was great to get that little President monkey off the back nice and early this time around.
