Hello and welcome to everyone here today for our first home game of the 2014 season.

Welcome to our Mt Albert/Ponsonby visitors, looking forward to two entertaining games this afternoon.

I would encourage you all to partake in refreshments from our well stocked bar, food from our excellent kitchen menu and even a freshly made coffee from our new coffee machine to make your Good Friday football experience complete.

I would also like our supporters to really embrace our two relatively young new teams, run by our new expert coaching squad, as Manurewa is reknowned for.

Projects the Board have been working on and instilled for this year include two youth acadamies, a dedicated coaching coordinator, two specialised goalkeeping training sessions each week, school holiday programmes for the kids, all run by a mix of ex All Whites, experienced coaches and successful players.

Finally, a huge thank you to all the people involved in setting up and getting the new season underway. It does take a lot of work to ensure players of all ages can enjoy their chosen sport and a fantastic, successful club.

Looking forward to an enjoyable & successful season as always.

Wayne Jensen [ M.A.F.C Vice Chairman ]

Hi and welcome once again to all supporters for the 2014 season. It seems a bit unusual that we are into our fourth game of the season and this is the first report I have had to do. Bonus! I would like to welcome Mt Albert/Ponsonby and their supporters to our first home game of the season. I have told our boys that this is an important weekend for us and that I will be disappointed if we don't pick up at least 3 points from our 2 games. We need to win at least 1 so we can stay in touch with the leaders. The positive side for us is that we have played 2 of the top sides already, losing 2-0 to Ellerslie and 1-0 to Eastern Suburbs respectively. Eastern Suburbs was by far our best performance to date , although they had the majority of the possession, we battled well against an experienced side which included a couple of ex Manurewa 1st team players. We again have a reasonably young squad and with the experience of a couple of old hands in Theara and Stevie, I believe that we will be quite competitive and should have done reasonably well come the end of the season.

Good luck to the first team this weekend and may the Easter bunny bring us an early present in the form of 3 points.

Welcome to Mt Albert Ponsonby and all Manurewa supporters to what is our first home match of the season.

Today's match is crucial in our bid to get our season back on track. After a solid pre-season build up we have had an indifferent start to the season both with results and performance. In our last outing we showed some positives and were unlucky not to get something from the match. With a little more quality, we will start to pick up the results that we are striving for and make this a Good Friday.

Mick Steedon has got Mount Albert coming to Memorial Park on the back of two big wins against Papatoetoe and Metro and we will be out to stop that run today.

They have some proven Northern League performers in Jared Colligan, Dim Hayhow and Robyn Graeme that will definitely be players to watch and ones to get the better of if we are to come away with the points today.

Here's to another season for the mighty Manurewa. We look forward to seeing you all down here in the coming weeks and having a beer after.

See you in the bar…

Senior Report

Hi everyone

Welcome to the 2014 season, hope you all had a great summer break and are ready for a new season.

This weekend see the First team and the Reserves have their first home game for the season. The season hasn’t started as we had planned with 3 away loses which have been close but not been able to score goals being the let-down. We welcome Steve Carmichael and Anthony Cibilch to the team and hope they can help score goals. The Reserves started the season with a win against Mangere but then unfortunately lost to Ellerslie and Eastern Suburbs by the narrowest of margins but I’m sure they can bounce back today against Mt Albert Ponsonby. The First team and Reserves are the only games this weekend so I am sure they would love to see you all at Stanmore Bay Park Hibiscus Coast on Monday for your support.

The Div 4 side couldn’t have started the season any better being unbeaten in the first two games downing Western Springs then downing last year champs Unimount 2-1 last weekend. This is a new team this year and I’m sure they can only get better so well done guys may it continue for the rest of the season.

The Div 6 team are yet to post their first win but considering they have only been together for 4-5 weeks things can only get better. I’m sure things will get better as the season progresses. They are still looking for a couple more players so if you know of anyone please let us know—thanks.

The Over 30’s started off the season with a great 2-1 win over Western Springs then going down to Fencibles last week 3-0. Only a minor setback and I’m sure they can bounce back next week against Metro.

The Over 35’s haven’t started as well as they had hoped going down 2 nil to Mangere and Beachlands. But I’m sure next week against Tuakau Old Boys they can stem the tide and get their season back on track. So good luck boys.

The ladies team have started the season unbeaten with draws to Central and Ellerslie. Well done ladies and I’m sure you can get your first win next week against .

Last but not least U19’s started off suburbly by beating Albany 3-2 but going down to a very strong Eastern Suburbs side last week 7-0. Next week they have got North Shore at home so hopefully they can get back to winning form.

Fees are due now so please get them paid ASAP so we can get the paper work complete and you can go into the draw for the weekly $50 bar tab.

Thanks

Adrian Stewart Senior Chairman

LADIES REPORT

Following the loss of our coach and some senior players at the end of last season the Team has managed to find themselves with 12 players and a Coach.

Training has started well and so has the season with two hard fought draws. Week 1 one all draw with Central United and week 2, a 2 all draw with Ellerslie.

Both games have seen periods of great passing play and excellent support of players. Some of that play was on display during Sunday's game which resulted in Katherine Alderton scoring. Don't think I have seen her name on the score sheet in the previous two years. Sarah Ireland has scored two goals this season so there will be plenty of rivalry for the prestige award for top goal scorer.

On the flip side there has also been some lack lustre play where we have let the opposition have the ball and run through and put the ball into the net. This gives us something to work on at training and attempting to tighten up the defensive end of the field.

We have a break over Easter and will be away when we return to Onehunga Sports. The team is still looking for more players so if there are some willing women out there looking for some Sunday entertainment let us know.

Robynne Ladies Coach Youth Report Hi Everyone

Welcome to the 2014 season here at Rewa and Memorial Park. We welcome back to the committee Vada Miers and Carl Turner and also welcome to all the families who are new to the club.

The youth section has grown this season—we now have 19 teams up 2 from last season. A big thank you to all the coaches who have put their hands up to coach a youth team within the club. It was a big job for the committee to get all teams up and running but we got there.

Several teams participated in pre season tournaments most being the Papakura Pre-season Tournament. Our 16th Grade Pumas competed at the ACFC Youth U17 tournament in March. They did well narrowly loosing to last years winners. Although they did not qualify, this was a huge experience for the team who have been training since early January.

With two games into the grading rounds, team are beginning to gel. We now have two weeks off due to Easter and the school holidays so it will give them a change to get some more training in before we are back on the field again on 3 May.

We still have a few spaces available in the 13th grade,15th grade and 17th grade boys so if you know of anyone still wanting to play, please ask them to email [email protected] with their contact details and we will get back to them.

YOUTH PLAYER OF THE DAY Takes place every game day around 3pm after the Juniors. Players need to register at the Youth table prior to this. Any Youth player is eligible to enter the Youth Draw of a $15 non-alcoholic bar tab.

2014 has kicked off with a couple of great weekends of fine weather and good football with over 180 players in the 5th to 10th grades.

April 5th had all the Small White grades of 5th to 8th playing at home for the Club Breakfast, and a lot of families enjoyed a cooked breakfast and the sunny day to start the season.

Round 2 have them back at the usual ground of Bruce Pulman Park where they play against other club such as Papakura, Drury, & Clendon.

9th & 10th grade teams were straight into the “home & away” grading rounds which will help sort what Divisions they will compete in for 2014.

With Easter, comes a 2 week break to help recharge the batteries, spend some with family & friends, & enjoy your school holidays.
