After last season’s stirling efforts we fi nd ourselves in Northern Region Football League (NRFL) division 1, which is not bad considering it meant 2011 we achieved two promotions in the course of a season to get here. Now our task is to stay here. Management We started with a good performance last week at Committee Manurewa. While we didn’t get a result it was good to see the new faces settle in well and a couple of youngsters Patron make the most of their chance in the side. We now have Jack Poole to do it again this week and also look to get those fi rst three points on the board. President Welcome to Fabio and his Onehunga Mangere team. We Dwayne Barlow know very little about you guys and, judging by the team Vice-President sheet, it appears you’ve had quite a turnover of players Peter Challis during the off-season. Our two clubs have played each other four times in the Northern League, with the best Treasurer match being played at the Domain in 1998. We led 1-0 Dave Mann at the break then a crazy 2nd half saw eight goals go in, Secretary giving us a 6-3 victory. Let’s hope we see plenty of goals Julie Clothier today as well. We’ve had issues with our playing surface over the Club Captain summer, so today is the fi rst time we’ve been able to use Chris Bedford the Domain. Thanks to Mal, Julie and Bryan at the council Junior for getting the pitch into a playable condition. Co-ordinator I’d like to make a special welcome to our sponsors. Malcolm Raynel Hopefully the weather has been kind to us today so that we can crank the barbie up and down a few cold ones. Junior The club is extremely appreciative of the support we Convenor receive from a good number of local fi rms and people. Kim Hancock Without this help we’d have no chance of competing in NRFL division 1, which is the second highest winter league in the country. I hope we’ll see you all again at the Domain many more times this season. Dwayne Barlow PICTURED Front Cover Mike Spencer fl ys high against Manurewa. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 Welcome to Mangere United to the second round of the NRFL first and reserves. This is second of four home games. Over these weeks of home fixtures it is time to get in behind both sides with the support they need to cross the line and turn the tables around. Don’t give up. Last week’s game was a goody and playing like that is what’s needed week in and out. As the season moves on think back as to whose helping, organising, doing that bit extra, managing, in all areas of the club so their names can be put forward to the different committees for possible end of year awards. I mentioned a couple last week. You should all by now have your raffle tickets yes even I got a book. Put in the effort - I have 5 left easy to sell with the great prizes. To all members a reminder that the club draw is at 6pm and while you wait with a drink or two or something from the cafe, sit and discuss the what could have been or now to make it better for all those involved with the game. See you on the side line at the park. Kerry Bevan President WE NEED YOUR HELP Pablo Yackson is a crucial member of our first team and has recently shifted to New Zealand from South America.

While most normal people are pigging out on Easter eggs and hot cross buns the football fraternity will be slogging it 2011 out on fi elds up and down the country. I’m sure there’s a good reason why we do it... Management Our start to the season has been solid enough. A close Committee loss at Manurewa was followed by a home victory over Onehunga Mangere that was a little more exciting than it Patron needed to be. Last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Takapuna was Jack Poole a real battle. It took us until mid-June to get our fi rst point in Auckland last season, so it was great to get that little President monkey off the back nice and early this time around. Dwayne Barlow This weekend we play host to two of the favourites Vice-President for the 2011 NRFL division 1 title. This will be a proper Peter Challis examination of where we stand and a good indicator of our prospects for the season. Treasurer Birkenhead United visit us on Saturday and come with Dave Mann the reputation of being a young and exciting footballing Secretary team.

That’s the only female match scheduled for Sunday due to the weekend earlier being set aside for the ASB Women’s Knockout Cup and it’s a fitting encounter to take centre stage. Glenfield are one of four sides in the hunt for the title and a win would put them top on goal difference. In the men’s Premier League, Eastern Suburbs can take another step towards the title with a victory over Birkenhead United while North Shore United’s hosting of Ellerslie is the highlight of Division One. The game of greatest consequence in Division Two is the southern derby between Papatoetoe and Papakura City, who both need the points for contrasting reasons – Papatoetoe to boost their fight against relegation and Papakura to strengthen their title charge.

To tie in with this historic milestone, the Lotto NRFL will have a new look and feel with the introduction of a logo and further branding, including social media and this weekly programme, for one of the country’s leading club-based competitions. The elements used within the logo refer to various features of the different regions. The wavy lines represent the wide expanses of water that surround Northland, Auckland and the Waikato, including the Waikato River, while the mountains evoke the Waitakere Ranges, Bombay Hills and Kamai Ranges, as well as the numerous volcanoes that are scattered throughout the area. The Harbour Bridge connects Auckland’s southern suburbs with the North Shore and stands proud in the distance of the logo while the history of the competition is reflected in the slogan ’50 Years of Local Pride’. Premier League leaders Eastern Suburbs and third-placed Central United are both involved in the cup quarter-finals, meaning the likes of Hamilton Wanderers, Onehunga Sports and Glenfield Rovers can all make up some vital ground. The clash between Wanderers and Sports at Porritt Stadium will be the highlight on Saturday while Glenfield have to deal with a testing trip to resurgent Melville United. There is a massive game in Division One with Forrest Hill-Milford United playing host to Tauranga City United, the outcome of which will have huge consequences in the battle for promotion. The same can be said of the meeting between Oratia United and North Force in Division Two while the season-defining fixtures keep coming with the women’s action on Sunday. Whoever comes out on top as Forrest Hill travel to Claudelands Rovers is likely to go on and win the Women’s Premier title, meaning Glenfield must make sure they sweep aside Norwest United and pray for a draw in the big title decider at Claudelands’ Galloway Park home.

Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 www.manurewaafc.org.nz Hello again everyone and welcome to our first derby match for a couple of seasons. These matches are usually hard fought and entertaining regardless of where the teams currently stand on the results ladder. I expect today will be no different. At Manurewa this year we have embarked on a new coaching strategy for the 1st and reserves teams and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Hoani, Nathan, Mark & Steve for giving it a real attempt. We also have two relatively youthful sides this year that I would encourage to gel as a team, learn together and get stronger and better as individuals and as team players. We also welcome a couple of players from overseas, penalty saver Mataias and what red card Pablo. I hope you guys have settled in and are enjoying your time playing for Manurewa. Also welcome back Stephen Carmichael to the club, [I coached him when he was a youngster, oh he still is a youngster] he has scored more goals in three games than one of his coaches did in a year, [let you guess who that is]. To our supporters, once again thank you for the great turn out in numbers, whether home or away, it’s what gets this club mentioned in one way or another and I'm sure it does lift our teams.

We’ve just had Albany United complete a cup and league double over us, with last Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at 2011 Rosedale Park particularly painful. We’ll try not to dwell on that too much as one of the reasons for that scoreline, Management particularly the margin, was out of our control. We’ve just Committee got to get on with things, focus on what we can control and let the rest of it take care of itself. Patron We welcome Glenfi eld Rovers to the Domain today for Jack Poole what shapes as another vital match, in a season of vital matches, for us. Rovers sit four points ahead of us in a President league table that seems to change wildly from week to Dwayne Barlow week. Vice-President While the top couple of teams look to be clearing out Peter Challis you can still throw a blanket over those sitting from 3rd to 9th. That gives teams such as ourselves, who are a little Treasurer further off the pace, the belief that we can still pick up Dave Mann points every week. That belief has to be the difference Secretary between turning up every Saturday ready to scrap for Julie Clothier survival and giving up.

Both teams need to win. For us, the three points will give us a chance of staying up, while for our visitors, 2011 Manurewa, those very same points will guarantee them promotion to the Premier League. Management So this is not your typical end of season, nothing to play Committee for, game of football. It’s not life or death either, but the result will shape the immediate futures of both clubs. Patron Football’s much more real when there’s something big to Jack Poole play for. As this is the fi nal programme of 2011, I’d like to thank President a few people.
