This fact could have been lost to the family by simply never being spoken about. Reference to Pusheta is the township of Pusheta and not the town (abandoned long ago). I have not come across a 1 Produced by Legacy on 26 Jan 2018 Descendants of Freidrich Bernard Mittendorf refeence to Pusheta Township anywhere else so it is possible that the land purchased was in Pusheta Township which was later renamed when they abandoned the town due to disease and flooding. Uncovered Uncle Teddy's research/story about the Mittendorf Crest. In this he states that is father died while visiting Germany. Based on date of Dorothea's remarriage, changing Teddy's date of 1848 to 1847 Where in Germany did freidrich Mittendorf come from? : 24 Jan 2018, Centerton, Benton, Arkansas The Genealogy database initially recorded the Freidrich as coming from Barmen in the Ruhr Valley in the Dusseldorf area. This was based on a document written by Freidrich's Grandson, Theodore Mittendorf, sometime in the 1920's after a visit to Germany. In this document he states that the family had a long history of mercenary service in the "Low Countries" where they were awarded the "Von" surname prefix. This has been revised based on two pieces of evidence found in my research. First, the 1880 US Census of his son Frederick where he states that his Father was from Hannover, Germany. Second, the research tome, Gateway to the West, Volume I has a transcription of the 23 Sep 1839 Common Pleas Court proceedings for the Naturalization of Freidrich where he states he was born in Hannover, Saxony. Further study of documents on reseaching German Genealogy in January of 2018 diretced me to web sites that provide maaping aids for research. These websites us telephone book listings as an indicator of possible locations of origin for immigrants to the United States. The results from the mapping web sites are consistent with each other and and as both have the highest occurances listings in and near Hannover. While further reseach will be undertaken to try and confirm his origin as Hannover with more documents contemporary to his life, I have chosen to show Hannover as his birth place and place of origin. Grandson Theodore also wrote in his 1920's document that Freidrich died in 1847 while on a trip to the home land. I am hopeful that further research will allow us to identify the exact date and location. I have found a source document where his wife, Dorothea, filled his will for Probate in 1847, so the year appears to accurate. I am linking the summary document of what I found on the German Name Mapping web sites.
