Dave Fanning Rocks!By JHCAn engrossing rock chronicle. A great tale of a fascinating career by someone who obviously revels in, and is a master of, what he does.....and has interviewed just about everyone worth interviewing. Funny and moving too.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy David P GrahamAwesome book by an amazing DJ2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Name drop after name dropBy edNot a terribly interesting read, I did enjoy the beginning where he actually talks about his life, after that it's just Dave listing the people he met and how great it was that Bono turned up at some insignificant life event or other. It almost seems like he wrote the book with only himself and Bono in mind to actually read the thing. I really enjoy his radio shows but this book actually turned me off him a little. There seems to be alot of moaning about having to go to exciting parties with legendary musicians, having a great job where he goes to every gig in Dublin for free, and moving from one salubrious area of Dublin to another. With all the name dropping in here you'd think there might be a few juicy tidbits we'd never heard before but it's really dissappointing on this level too. Not very well written, and in the end I found it hard to keep reading to the last page. Described as the Irish John Peel, Dave Fanning has been a major player in the Irish and global music scene for more than 30 years. In this compelling memoir, starting around the incarnation of 2FM, Ireland's equivalent of Radio 1, Dave Fanning will give the behind-the-scenes story of all the international musicians he has met, including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, David Bowie, The Who, and many, many more. Renowned for supporting young, new Irish talent, Dave Fanning will detail the unique story of his role in the launch of U2 and his ongoing friendship with the band, delving into their humble beginnings and rise to fame. Including never-before-seen photographs and images from Dave's huge personal collection, this is an absolute must-have for any music fan and will be a significant contribution to the history of music. 'Whether he's conducting radio interviews with Robert Plant while still living at home with mum and dad, playing an early part in the ascent of US (he remains close to them today) or simply describing the Irish music scene, its leaders and bit-players, the charm of the story is its engaging and self-deprecating reminiscing.' Dave changed things, opened up ears.'
