  • Master Thesis the Changes in the Dutch Dance Music Industry Value
Master thesis The changes in the Dutch dance music industry value chain due to the digitalization of the music industry University of Groningen, faculty of Management & Organization Msc in Business Administration: Strategy & Innovation Author: Meike Biesma Student number: 1677756 Supervisor: Iván Orosa Paleo Date: 11 May 2009 Abstract During this research, the Dutch dance music industry was investigated. Because of the changes in the music industry, that are caused by the internet, the Dutch dance music industry has changed accordingly. By means of a qualitative research design, a literature study was done as well as personal interviews were performed in order to investigate what changes occurred in the Dutch dance music industry value chain. Where the Dutch dance music industry used to be a physical oriented industry, the digital music format has replaced the physical product. This has had major implications for actors in the industry, because the digital sales have not compensated the losses that were caused by the decrease in physical sales. The main trigger is music piracy. Digital music is difficult to protect, and it was found that almost 99% of all music available on the internet was illegal. Because of the decline in music sales revenues, actors in the industry have had to change their strategies to remain profitable. New actors have emerged, like digital music retailers and digital music distributors. Also, record companies have changed their business model by vertically integrating other tasks within the dance music industry value chain to be able to stay profitable. It was concluded that the value chain of the Dutch dance music industry has changed drastically because of the digitalization of the industry.

  • 29Th June 2003 Pigs May Fly Over TV Studios by Bob Quinn If Brian
29th June 2003 Pigs May Fly Over TV Studios By Bob Quinn If Brian Dobson, Irish Television’s chief male newsreader had been sacked for his recent breach of professional ethics, pigs would surely have taken to the air over Dublin. Dobson, was exposed as doing journalistic nixers i.e. privately helping to train Health Board managers in the art of responding to hard media questions – from such as Mr. Dobson. When his professional bilocation was revealed he came out with his hands up – live, by phone, on a popular RTE evening radio current affairs programme – said he was sorry, that he had made a wrong call. If long-standing Staff Guidelines had been invoked, he might well have been sacked. Immediately others confessed, among them Sean O’Rourke, presenter of the station’s flagship News At One. He too, had helped train public figures, presumably in the usual techniques of giving soft answers to hard questions. Last year O’Rourke, on the live news, rubbished the arguments of the Chairman of Primary School Managers against allowing advertisers’ direct access to schoolchildren. O’Rourke said the arguments were ‘po-faced’. It transpires that many prominent Irish public broadcasting figures are as happy with part-time market opportunities as Network 2’s rogue builder, Dustin the Turkey, or the average plumber in the nation’s black economy. National radio success (and TV failure) Gerry Ryan was in the ‘stable of stars’ run by Carol Associates and could command thousands for endorsing a product. Pop music and popcorn cinema expert Dave Fanning lucratively opened a cinema omniplex.

  • Garage House Music Whats up with That
Garage House Music whats up with that Future funk is a sample-based advancement of Nu-disco which formed out of the Vaporwave scene and genre in the early 2010s. It tends to be more energetic than vaporwave, including elements of French Home, Synth Funk, and making use of Vaporwave modifying techniques. A style coming from the mid- 2010s, often explained as a blend of UK garage and deep home with other elements and strategies from EDM, popularized in late 2014 into 2015, typically mixes deep/metallic/sax hooks with heavy drops somewhat like the ones discovered in future garage. One of the very first house categories with origins embeded in New York and New Jersey. It was named after the Paradise Garage bar in New york city that operated from 1977 to 1987 under the prominent resident DJ Larry Levan. Garage house established along with Chicago home and the outcome was home music sharing its resemblances, affecting each other. One contrast from Chicago house was that the vocals in garage house drew stronger impacts from gospel. Noteworthy examples consist of Adeva and Tony Humphries. Kristine W is an example of a musician involved with garage house outside the genre's origin of birth. Also understood as G-house, it includes very little 808 and 909 drum machine-driven tracks and often sexually explicit lyrics. See likewise: ghettotech, juke house, footwork. It integrates components of Chicago's ghetto house with electro, Detroit techno, Miami bass and UK garage. It includes four-on-the-floor rhythms and is normally faster than a lot of other dance music categories, at approximately 145 to 160 BPM.

Berry, Richard (2013) Radio with pictures: Radio visualization in BBC national radio. The Radio Journal, 11 (2). pp. 169-184. ISSN 1476-4504 Downloaded from: http://sure.sunderland.ac.uk/id/eprint/5210/ Usage guidelines Please refer to the usage guidelines at http://sure.sunderland.ac.uk/policies.html or alternatively contact [email protected]. Radio with Pictures: Radio Visualisation in BBC National Radio Richard Berry University of Sunderland Abstract. Radio has always had pictures. The ones the listener created in their own minds and this is, most of us agree, one of the medium's greatest strengths. However, radio is increasingly consumed on a digital platform (such as DAB Radio, Digital TV, a mobile device or a computer) on devices with screens, rather than a dial. This creates a problem for radio because when we look at the device we are listening to we see a screen that often lacks rich content. The process of Radio Visualisation is about filling this space. This papers focus, though, is the other ways in which radio is visualising itself online in a process that deploys transmedia storytelling techniques that build relationships with the audience, builds brands and helps broadcasters to tell stories in ways never before possible. In the spring of 2011 2.84 million British TV viewers watched a radio programme on their Televisions. They were tuning in via interactive television (or the 'red button') services to watch the BBC Radio One breakfast presenter Chris Moyles attempt to break a world record for the longest radio programme. The BBC installed a series of fixed cameras in the programme’s regular studio at the BBC's Yalding House studios, with added 'roving' cameras to allow the presenters to broadcast from other parts of the building and a cafe across the street.

  • House, Techno & the Origins of Electronic Dance Music
HOUSE, TECHNO & THE ORIGINS OF ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC 1 EARLY HOUSE AND TECHNO ARTISTS THE STUDIO AS AN INSTRUMENT TECHNOLOGY AND ‘MISTAKES’ OR ‘MISUSE’ 2 How did we get here? disco electro-pop soul / funk Garage - NYC House - Chicago Techno - Detroit Paradise Garage - NYC Larry Levan (and Frankie Knuckles) Chicago House Music House music borrowed disco’s percussion, with the bass drum on every beat, with hi-hat 8th note offbeats on every bar and a snare marking beats 2 and 4. House musicians added synthesizer bass lines, electronic drums, electronic effects, samples from funk and pop, and vocals using reverb and delay. They balanced live instruments and singing with electronics. Like Disco, House music was “inclusive” (both socially and musically), infuenced by synthpop, rock, reggae, new wave, punk and industrial. Music made for dancing. It was not initially aimed at commercial success. The Warehouse Discotheque that opened in 1977 The Warehouse was the place to be in Chicago’s late-’70s nightlife scene. An old three-story warehouse in Chicago’s west-loop industrial area meant for only 500 patrons, the Warehouse often had over 2000 people crammed into its dark dance foor trying to hear DJ Frankie Knuckles’ magic. In 1982, management at the Warehouse doubled the admission, driving away the original crowd, as well as Knuckles. Frankie Knuckles and The Warehouse "The Godfather of House Music" Grew up in the South Bronx and worked together with his friend Larry Levan in NYC before moving to Chicago. Main DJ at “The Warehouse” until 1982 In the early 80’s, as disco was fading, he started mixing disco records with a drum machines and spacey, drawn out lines.
