Šia proga ne tik sveikinam Lietuvių Fondą, bet sveikinam ir Jus, mieli nariai, nes Jūs esate didelė Lietuvių Fondo dalis. Be Jūsų paramos mes nebūtumėm sulaukę šios 50 metų sukakties. Be Jūsų mes nebūtumėm galėję išdalinti virš 16 milijonų dolerių paramos mūsų brangios lietuviškos kultūros ir švietimo išlaikymui. Būtų įdomu pamąstyti, ar Lietuvių Fondas nėra kaip nors palietęs kiek- vieno iš mūsų? Ar mūsų vaikai nelankė lituanistinės mokyklos, ar nesame dalyvavę šokių ar dainų šventėse, ar nesame perskaitę geros lietuviškos knygos, ar nepažįstam studentų, gavusių Lietuvių Fondo stipendiją?.. Gali būti, kad atsakymas bent į vieną iš šių klausimų yra teigiamas! Tad su ta mintimi ir pradėkime kitus ateinančius 50 metų, pasistenkime pritraukti naujų narių, pasikalbėkime apie Lietuvių Fondą su šeima ir pažįstamais, kad tikrai galėtumėm išlaikyti mūsų šūkį „Iš kartos į kartą“. August, 2012 Dear Members and Friends of the Lithuanian Foundation, As you probably have heard or read, the Lithuanian Foundation is cel- ebrating it golden anniversary this year. With this occasion, not only are we congratulating the LF, but we need to congratulate you also, because you are a vital part of our organization. Without you, we wouldn‘t have this wonderful anniversary. Without you, we wouldn‘t have been able to grant over $16 million for the preservation of our culture and children‘s educa- tion. Let‘s reflect for a moment – hasn‘t the Lithuanian Foundation touched each and everyone of us somehow? Haven‘t our children attended Lithua- nian schools, sang and danced at festivals, haven‘t we read a good Lithu- anian book, do we not know of a student who has received a scholarship from us? Most probably the answer is yes. Then with that thought in mind, let‘s start our next 50 years, with a commitment to attract new members, let‘s talk about the LF with our families and friends, so that we can truly live up to our motto, „From Generation to Generation“. Mieli Lietuvų Fondo nariai ir rėmėjai, Kiekvienais metais Lietuvių Fondo Pelno skirstymo komitetas, patvirtintas Lietuvių Fon- do (LF) Direktorių tarybos, susirenka apsvarstyti lėšų paskirstymą. 2012 m. Komiteto apsvarstytą lėšų paskirstymą patvirtino Direktorių taryba. Stipendijos bus suteiktos atskirai 2012 m. rudenį. Lietuvių Fondas remia lietuvių švietimą, kultūrą, skiria paramą lietuvių kalbai ir tradici- joms išsaugoti, taip pat suteikia stipendijas lietuvių kilmės jaunimui. Lietuvių Fondas veikia ir skirsto lėšas laikydamasis JAV Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code paragrafo. Skirstant išmokas vadovaujamasi Paramos ir stipendijų pirmenybės gairėmis, kurios yra patvirtintos LF Direktorių tarybos (gaires galima rasti LF tinklala- pyje). 2012 metais LF Direktorių taryba patvirtino 400,952 dol. išmokų sumą, iš kurios 302,538 dol. skiriami paramai, kurią paskirstė Pelno skirstymo komitetas. (Papildomai, pagal specialios paskirties fondų steigėjų nurodymus, 8,364 dol. parama bus išmokėta tiesiogiai institucijoms.) Pelno paskirstymo komitetas susitiko 2012 m. gegužės 19 dieną Pasaulio lietuvių cen- tre, Lemonte, IL. Posėdyje dalyvavo visi 2012 m. Pelno skirstymo komiteto nariai: Pelno paskirstymo komiteto pirmininkas Vytas Narutis, LF atstovai Arvydas Tamulis, Dalius F. Vasys, Juozas Kapačinskas (antrininkas), JAV Lietuvių bendruomenės atstovai Gin- tautas Taoras, Jonas A. Vainius, Virgus Volertas, Robertas Selenis (antrininkas). Taip pat dalyvavo LF Tarybos pirmininkas Marius Kasniūnas bei LF administratorė Jūratė Mereckienė. Šiais metais buvo gautos 77 paraiškos paramai. Prašymai buvo apsvarstyti, jiems patvirtinti reikėjo mažiausiai keturių balsų iš šešių. Tada LF Pelno skirstymo komiteto sprendimai buvo perduoti LF Direktorių tarybai galutiniam patvirtinimui. Paramai su- teikti patvirtinta 279,113 dol. suma. Nepaskirstyti liko 23,425 dol. Kaip panaudoti šią sumą, svarstysime vėliau 2012 m. Didžiausia lėšų dalis skirta: JAV lituanistinėms mokykloms 75,000 dol. Studentų mainų Lietuvoje programai 22,500 dol. Lituanistikos tyrimo ir studijų centrui 20,000 dol. XIV Lietuvių tautinių šokių šventei 20,000 dol. „Draugo“ laikraščiui 15,000 dol. Stipendijoms, kurios bus išdalintos 2012 m. rudenį LF Stipendijų pakomitečio posėdžio metu, numatyta 70,152 dol. suma (papildomai stipendijoms, pagal specialios paskirties fondų steigėjų nurodymus, tiesiogiai mokslo įstaigoms bus išmokėta 19,898 dol.). Pastaraisiais metais padaugėjo finansinės paramos prašančių projektų, tačiau galimybės paremti juos visus ribotos. Todėl Lietuvių Fondas ieško rėmėjų, kurie padėtų plėsti turimą LF kapitalą. Jūsų papildoma auka labai laukiama ir vertinama. Taip pat laukiame patarimų, kaip galima būtų surinkti daugiau lėšų. Nuoširdžiai dėkoju visiems Komiteto nariams už jų sunkų darbą ir pasiaukojimą. Jų savanoriškas darbas (net savo kelionių išlaidų padengimas) labai vertinamas. Taip pat mes visi dėkojame LF administracijai už nesuskaičiuojamas pasiruošimo ir organiza- vimo valandas, be jūsų pagalbos mūsų pastangos nebūtų įgyvendintos. Pagarbiai Vytas Narutis Pelno skirstymo komiteto pirmininkas 4 August, 2012 Dear Lithuanian Foundation Members and Donors, Every year, the Lithuanian Foundation Grants Committee meets to recommend grant appropriations. The grant appropriations recommended for the year 2012 have been approved by the Board of Directors for disbursement. The scholarship awards will be awarded separately in the fall of 2012. The Lithuanian Foundation appropriates grants to support Lithuanian education, culture and scholarship, to support the preservation of the Lithuanian language and traditions. It also awards scholarships to youths of Lithuanian heritage. The Lithuanian Foundation operates within the scope of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Funding deliberations are guided by listed priorities for Grants and Scholarships, as approved by the LF Board of Directors, and posted on LF website. The total amount approved for disbursement in 2012 by the LF Board of Directors was $400,952, of that $302,538 were designated grant disbursements at the Grants Commit- tee meeting. (Grants in the amount of $8,364 will be disbursed directly to the institutions according to the donors’ designation). The Grants Committee met on May 19, 2012 at the World Lithuanian Center, Lemont, Ill. Present at the meeting was the entire 2012 Grants Committee membership, Marius Kasniunas, Chairman of the Board, and Jurate Mereckis, LF Administrator and secretary for this meeting. First, the place of writing among the various systems of human inter­ communication is discussed. This is followed by four Tchapters devoted to the descriptive and comparative treatment of the various types of writing in the world. The sixth chapter deals with the evolution of writing from the earliest stages of picture writing to a full alphabet. The next four chapters deal with general problems, such as the future of writing and the relationship of writing to speech, art, and religion. Of the two final chapters, one contains the first attempt to establish a full terminology of writing, the other an extensive bibliography. The aim of this study is to lay a foundation for a new science of writing which might be called grammatology. While the general histories of writing treat individual writings mainly from a descriptive-historical point of view, the new science attempts to establish general principles governing the use and evolution of writing on a comparative-typological basis.
