Compact Deep Aggregation for Set Retrieval
Compact Deep Aggregation for Set Retrieval Yujie Zhong · Relja Arandjelovic´ · Andrew Zisserman Abstract The objective of this work is to learn a compact such as a group of friends or a family. Then we would like the embedding of a set of descriptors that is suitable for efficient retrieved images that contain all of the set to be ranked first, retrieval and ranking, whilst maintaining discriminability of followed by images containing subsets, e.g. if there are three the individual descriptors. We focus on a specific example of friends in the query, then first would be images containing this general problem – that of retrieving images containing all three friends, then images containing two of the three, multiple faces from a large scale dataset of images. Here the followed by images containing only one of them. Consider set consists of the face descriptors in each image, and given another example where a fashion savvy customer is research- a query for multiple identities, the goal is then to retrieve, in ing a dress and a handbag. A useful retrieval system would order, images which contain all the identities, all but one, etc. first retrieve images in which models or celebrities wear both To this end, we make the following contributions: first, items, so that the customer can see if they match. Following we propose a CNN architecture – SetNet – to achieve the ob- these, it would also be beneficial to show images containing jective: it learns face descriptors and their aggregation over a any one of the query items so that the customer can discover set to produce a compact fixed length descriptor designed for other fashionable combinations relevant to their interest. -

Instagram Claire Wilson, Honeymoon Expert at Mr & Mrs Smith What is currently the most popular destination for honeymoons? This year it’s all about Greece, particularly Santorini and Mykonos – they’re beautiful islands with the most stunning sunset views. Iconic opened earlier this year and still has availability for this summer, so that’s my insider tip! The Amalfi coast is the ultimate Italian escape for a honeymoon, too; I love Capo la Gala and Maison la Minervetta for their quirky design, ocean views and, of course, wonderful food. Six days after a massive earthquake and tsu- nami hit Japan, damaging the Fukushima nucle- ar plant 124 miles northeast of the capital city, Chanel was handing out iodine tablets to work- ers and Hennes & Mauritz and PPR temporarily relocated offi ces. Procter & Gamble Co. issued a state- ment saying all its employees were safe, but a spokeswoman declined to say whether they had been instructed to leave Tokyo. Many fi rms in the capital have already given their employees the green light to work remotely, given rolling blackouts on the edges of the city and erratic train service. This Book Is a Compendium of New Wave Posters. It Is Organized Around the Designers (At Last!)
“This book is a compendium of new wave posters. It is organized around the designers (at last!). It emphasizes the key contribution of Eastern Europe as well as Western Europe, and beyond. And it is a very timely volume, assembled with R|A|P’s usual flair, style and understanding.” –CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING, FROM THE INTRODUCTION 2 artbook.com French New Wave A Revolution in Design Edited by Tony Nourmand. Introduction by Christopher Frayling. The French New Wave of the 1950s and 1960s is one of the most important movements in the history of film. Its fresh energy and vision changed the cinematic landscape, and its style has had a seminal impact on pop culture. The poster artists tasked with selling these Nouvelle Vague films to the masses—in France and internationally—helped to create this style, and in so doing found themselves at the forefront of a revolution in art, graphic design and photography. French New Wave: A Revolution in Design celebrates explosive and groundbreaking poster art that accompanied French New Wave films like The 400 Blows (1959), Jules and Jim (1962) and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). Featuring posters from over 20 countries, the imagery is accompanied by biographies on more than 100 artists, photographers and designers involved—the first time many of those responsible for promoting and portraying this movement have been properly recognized. This publication spotlights the poster designers who worked alongside directors, cinematographers and actors to define the look of the French New Wave. Artists presented in this volume include Jean-Michel Folon, Boris Grinsson, Waldemar Świerzy, Christian Broutin, Tomasz Rumiński, Hans Hillman, Georges Allard, René Ferracci, Bruno Rehak, Zdeněk Ziegler, Miroslav Vystrcil, Peter Strausfeld, Maciej Hibner, Andrzej Krajewski, Maciej Zbikowski, Josef Vylet’al, Sandro Simeoni, Averardo Ciriello, Marcello Colizzi and many more. -
Gigi Hadid Photographed by Helena Christensen Exclusively for the May 2019 Issue of Vogue Czechoslovakia
Gigi Hadid photographed by Helena Christensen exclusively for the May 2019 issue of Vogue Czechoslovakia The May issue of VOGUE CS features a photo shoot with one of the most sought after models in the world - Gigi Hadid. It is the first time Gigi has invited a magazine to her family farm located near New York. Helena Christensen, the Danish supermodel and icon of the nineties - who is also a successful photographer, shot the American model there for the Czechoslovak edition of the world‘s most important fashion magazine. Gigi wore clothes from several Czech fashion designers throughout the cover story. “I am delighted that thanks to the friendship of Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Gigi Hadid, we could photograph Gigi in her secret place, where she has not yet invited any other photographer or jour- nalist. We tried to show Gigi as she’s never been seen before, with her horses, in a place she loves,” says Andrea Běhounková, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue CS. “I wanted her to be as much of herself as possible on her farm among horses, surrounded by nature. Gigi finds not only inspiration, but above all peace and security, in this environment. I wanted to capture her essence, the little girl that still remains in her. The wind blows in her hair, her eyes are full of expectations that something special will happen,” says Helena Christensen. Gigi Hadid personally invited Helena Christensen and the Vogue CS team to her farm located near New York which she shares with her mother and siblings. To capture the intimate and dreamlike atmosphere of the place, Helena Christensen combined digital photography with expired Polaroids. -
Media Kit Culture of Fashion
media kit culture of fashion Bringing the fashion bible to the Czech and Slovak markets is both a dream come true and a challenge. When we started putting the first issue together back in spring 2018, we asked ourselves a several questions: Is writing about freedom Vogue enough? Is Olga Havlová Vogue enough? Is putting a second-hand coat on the first cover, in the times of excess and overproduction of luxury goods a strong enough fashion statement? On the other hand, what is and what is not Vogue? VOGUE is not just a magazine about fashion and lipsticks what people often think. Vogue is not a trendsetter. Vogue is a social indicator of style, trends and art movements. Vogue is a trend-maker. Vogue reflects current movements and puts fashion into their context. We believe that the Czech and Slovak Republics deserve their own. We do not want to copy or imitate anyone. We wanted to follow up on the tradition of photography and typography of the thirties, looking for our own aesthetics compatible not only with our history, but also with what is going on in contemporary fashion and culture. That is why Vogue CS is different. It is ours. Czechoslovak. And thus universal. Andrea Běhounková Editor-in-chief historyhistorie Vogue was founded in 1892 by Arthur Baldwin Turnure as a high-society journal. Condé Montrose Nast, the founder of Condé Nast Publications, bought Vogue in 1909 and transformed it into a women’s fashion magazine. It soon became known for its distinctive photographs and high editorial quality. -
Resident and a Former James Bond, Lent a Touch of Secret Agent Glamour
Monaco Royal Wedding: Prince Albert & Charlene Wittstock Marry In Religious Ceremony (PHOTOS) 6/26/12 4:23 PM Throughout the ceremony, which lasted an hour and a half, both bride and groom wore demure expressions, their eyes mostly downcast. Only as they took their vows and exchanged rings did the solemn facade crack: As they slipped on the 18 carat white gold Cartier rings onto each other's fingers, Albert – in a white military uniform – shot her a wink, and Charlene cracked a broad, sincere smile. BACK TO ARTICLE SHARE 6 / 64 THIS TheSLIDE tears flowed freely down the new princess' face after the ceremony, as she left her bouquet of lilies ADVERTISEMENTof the valley and other white blossoms at the Sainte Devote church – a tradition in Monaco. With photographers shouting for the attention of the A-list guests as they streamed into the palace, the wedding had something of the flavor of a star-studded red carpet at the film festival in neighboring Cannes. British actor Roger Moore, a longtime Monaco resident and a former James Bond, lent a touch of secret agent glamour. The carpet might as well have been a catwalk for British model Naomi Campbell and Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova – or for Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, who cut a mean figure in his skintight suit. Royal guests included the kings of Sweden and Belgium and Denmark's crown princess. Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the world's Ismaili Muslims, and Empress Farah Pahlavi, wife of Iran's deposed shah, chatted with former French first CURRENT TOP 5 SLIDES lady Bernadette Chirac inside the palace. -
Women Are Open and Brave”
Efsyn February 5, 2016 GAGOSIAN GALLERY “Women are open and brave” Pari Spinou The world’s foremost “Photographer of Women” was in Athens yesterday | photo: Marios Valasopoulos He is a famous fashion photographer who acknowledges that fashion photography is his job – he does it to make a living. But Peter Lindbergh’s editorials published in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Interview magazines are not glossy or colored, nothing like advertisements. On the contrary, they are black and white, sensual, disarmingly realistic, innocently provocative. They depict the natural grace of models, women that look like they are dancing, without much makeup, without a particular mise-en-scène or Photoshop processing. The legendary “Photographer of Women” was in the center of Athens yesterday – in the middle of tear gases and demonstrations – for the opening of his exhibition at Gagosian gallery. In a friendly manner, surrounded by his beloved models (most of them naked) captured in the frames of his photographs – Monica Bellucci, Madonna, Stephanie Seymour, Naomi Campbell, Jessica Chastain, Milla Jovovich, Nadja Auermann among them – he talked to us about art and his technique, as well as about what he feels about Greece. Sunrise and taxes: “It was during the late ’80s when I was photographing Linda Evangelista on the island of Santorini for American Vogue. Influenced by the blue skies and the white houses, the shooting eventually acquired a more or less touristic flair, but the story we narrated was a good one. In fact, I don’t really know much about Greece or the prevalent situation here. I know, though, that the main problem for countries facing financial issues has to do with the central banks that lend money to the governments.
