Operated by DP World Southampton, the terminal is home to the new 500m deepwater quay SCT5, which was purpose built to handle the biggest ships in the world. A major dredging programme ensures that 15.5m draft vessels - the biggest currently afloat - can access the port on most days of the year. The port is less than two miles from the M27 and has direct rail links to the main railway network for both freight and passenger trains. The Port of Southampton is served by Southampton International Airport, while Gatwick and Heathrow airports are within easy reach. The Role We are looking for a Port Duty Manager to manage a team of 5 Service Delivery Operatives and 3 Shift Technicians, being responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the port. You will lead and motivate the Port Operations Delivery Team to deliver the planned activities of the day, as well as proactively respond to changing circumstances in the port and respond as appropriate. You will also manage costs to ensure efficient use of resource, infrastructure and assets. This is an extremely reactive role and you will need to be able to think on your feet as well as have strong interpersonal skills as you will be dealing with people from all walks of life on a daily basis. Accountabilities 1. Responsible for leading the port operations team (POT) to successfully deliver in safety, quality, service and efficiency on a day to day basis. Line management responsibility will include; • Providing coaching and mentoring to your team members, to include conducting regular 1-2-1s • Ensuring Continual Professional Development is maintained and training provided as necessary for the team • Handling staff recruitment and conducting appraisals • Carrying out disciplinary procedures where necessary • Ensuring adequate cover of the shift is maintained • Ensuring working methods are used to maximise efficiency • Ensuring compliance and adherence to policies and procedures 2. Work with the company to promote a safety culture, acting as an ambassador for the ‘Beyond Zero’ safety campaign. Also ensuring all works that are planned and carried out are done so in a safe manner 3. The role will cover all operational activities, including but not limited to Cruise, Ro-Ro, Project Cargo, Yacht Shipping and Bulks 4. Responsible for duty performance reporting 5. Weekly/daily port and security Inspections as and when required 6. Line management responsibility for the Terminal Liaison Officer’s when on duty 7. Create a culture of proactive continuous improvement in safety, quality, service and efficiency 8. Be the main point of contact for customer service support on a duty basis, and first point of escalation for port wide incidents 9. Work closely with the Head of Integrated Planning to maximise effective utilisation of the operational service delivery team 10. Out of hours point of escalation and management of all operational departments Day’s based PDM to have the following duties: 1. TLO line manager 2. KAM responsibility as and when required 3. Operations contractor management 4. Work closely and liaise with non-operations departments on projects as required by the business 5. Management of Cruise Terminals and temporary terminal 6. Deputise for Head of Operations as required, and provide cover for Shift PDM’s. during periods of absence (i.e. sickness/annual leave) 7. Work flexibly between days and shift depending on business requirement 8. Maintaining the departments process and procedures and ensure they are kept up to date Skills and Experience • Demonstrable leadership capability • Substantial knowledge and experience of port or other industrial operations • Excellent communication skills • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the key service delivery principles • Demonstration of capability to multi-task and to make business decision • Experience of leading continuous improvement Additional Information: When joining ABP you will find an environment that is both welcoming and challenging.
