With the support of our customers, ABP’s Ports on the Humber – Hull, Goole, Grimsby and Immingham - contribute £2.2 billion to the UK economy every year whilst supporting 33,000 jobs and together handling more than 65 million tonnes of cargo. ABP's Humber facilities offer customers close links to markets in mainland Europe and Scandinavia and expertise in a broad range of cargoes, including energy, vehicles, roll-on roll-off, containers, bulks, liquid bulks and forest products. The Role Reporting to the Engineering Co-ordinator the Semi-Skilled Engineer will be responsible for the operation of plant and machinery to facilitate the maintenance, inspection and remedial works as required by the wider engineering department. Accountabilities • Undertake plant and equipment operative duties as directed to ensure compliance of Asset Management System requirements is maintained. • Undertake assigned inspection duties to ensure that compliance of Asset Management System requirements is maintained. • A good working knowledge of Health and Safety requirements to ensure compliance with ABP's policies and procedures, health & safety regulations and other relevant industry legislation as necessary. • Develop and maintain a good understanding of plant and equipment statutory inspection requirements. • Completion and submission of inspection documentation in a timely manner. • Assist the engineering department in the feedback and development of improved inspection and maintenance requirements. 1 Skills and Experience Essential: • Valid Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Licence Category C (Class 2) • Valid full UK driving licence. • Knowledge of related AIBP engineering business processes. • Understanding of legal, compliance and safety requirements. • Engineering maintenance best practices. • The successful candidate must be flexible in their approach to working hours and be prepared to work unsocial hours or weekends as required. Ideal: • Previous experience within port maintenance or a varied, intensive operational environment. • Strong communication/interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate to both internal and external customers and the ability to work as part of a team. Welcoming 12 million passengers travelling in 2.3 million tourist vehicles, and 2.6 million freight vehicles, the Port handles up to £122bn or 17% of the UK’s trade in goods each year. It is also an award- winning cruise port, the second busiest in England, and hosts a thriving cargo terminal and an award-winning marina. The Port is currently undertaking its biggest-ever single investment project – Dover Western Docks Revival – to deliver a new cargo and logistics facility and waterfront transformation. It has a shared vision to protect and enhance short and long-term port capacity for the nation, whilst becoming a catalyst for the regeneration of Dover. The Board seeks to appoint a Chief Executive who will lead the Port of Dover into and indeed beyond, the next chapter of the nation’s trading future post- Brexit for which Dover will continue to play a critical role. Successful applicants will hold recent, senior, commercial management experience of reporting to a Board, of developing strategy and the management of all or a significant part of a substantial organisation’s operations and resources. A proven track record of motivating and supporting a committed management team and workforce in a substantial business unit to achieve the objectives of an organisation is essential. Developing and maintaining relationships with customers and stakeholders, with honesty and integrity, as well as sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental issues, asset health, infrastructure investment and engineering as well as significant budgeting and financial planning experience are also key requirements of the role. All applications will be acknowledged and treated in strictest confidence. 3 Port and Harbour Engineer – Port of Ramsgate Full-Time / Permanent Salary £41,256 per annum, with opportunity for progression to £47,028 The Port of Ramsgate incorporating the Royal Harbour Marina combines a commercial port with a busy 700 berth leisure marina. The port is the operational base for 4 offshore wind farms and also accommodates aggregates import as well as larger Ro-Ro vessels and project cargoes. The adjacent Royal Harbour is home to an established fishing fleet, and a mixture of permanent and visitor moorings with modern vessel facilities and customer amenities. Main Duties This is an exciting opportunity to manage both wet and dry infrastructure at the Port and Harbour and coordinate an extensive maintenance programme. The role will include the project management of major engineering improvement schemes and leading an in-house maintenance team. As an engineering professional you will develop scheme designs and undertake procurement and supervision of works including budgetary control of projects. You will work closely with the Harbour Master and Maritime Operations Manager to deliver a high quality service to customers in a historic and picturesque harbour setting as well as facilitating port business by managing and maintaining heavy maritime infrastructure in the adjacent port. The Port of Ramsgate is a Municipal Port owned and operated by Thanet District Council. The post includes generous annual leave, flexible working, a 37 hour week, as well as access to the local government pension scheme.
