  • The Humber Metro
The Humber Metro The Humber Metro is a very futuristic concept, depending, as it does, on the existence of the Humber tunnel between Goxhill and the approach to Paragon station, proposed as part of HS10 in the ‘HS Eastern Routes and Service Plans’ article. As noted there, although the tunnel will be built to GC gauge, it is intended from the outset to be shared with Regional Metro traffic between Cleethorpes and Hull, which will at least initially be of UK loading gauge. The Humber Metro covers the area from Selby and Goole in the west to Cleethorpes and Withernsea in the east, and from Grimsby in the south to Bridlington in the north. The core section, built to GC-gauge, as all new infrastructure should be, runs in tunnel under the centre of Hull between Paragon (LL) and Cannon St. (former H&B) stations, with a connection to the Hornsea / Withernsea lines just before Wilmington, and another to the Beverley line at Cottingham. Other than that (and the Humber tunnel, of course,) it takes over the routes of existing and former, long closed, branches. The proposed metro services fall into two groups, either cross-river or west-east along the north bank. The services of the first group are: 2tph Cleethorpes – New Clee – Grimsby Docks – Grimsby Town – West Marsh – Great Coates – Healing – Stallingborough – Habrough – Ulceby – Thornton Abbey – Goxhill – Hull Paragon (LL) – George St. – Cannon St. – Beverley Rd. – Jack Kaye Walk – Cottingham – Beverley – Arram – Lockington – Hutton Cranswick – Great Driffield – Nafferton – Lowthorpe – Burton Agnes – Carnaby – Bridlington 2tph Cleethorpes – New Clee – Grimsby Docks – Grimsby Town – West Marsh – Great Coates – Healing – Stallingborough – Habrough – Ulceby – Thornton Abbey – Goxhill – Hull Paragon (LL) – George St.

  • Building Offshore Wind in England CORE: Centres for Offshore Renewable Engineering
Building Offshore Wind in England CORE: Centres for Offshore Renewable Engineering BUSINESS IS 2 Building Offshore Wind in England Ministerial Foreword Offshore wind is a UK success story and the UK is open for business. The UK is the world leader in offshore wind. We have more offshore wind installed than anywhere else in the world. We are an island nation, blessed with strong winds and shallow seas – and this energy resource is on our doorstep. We are determined to move to cleaner electricity generation and offshore wind has an important role to play in our long term plan for a balanced, low carbon energy mix. I want the UK to secure the economic benefits of this new industry. Through our offshore wind industrial strategy, the Government is committed to working in partnership with business to build a competitive, innovative UK supply chain for offshore wind, delivering jobs and economic growth. Building a strong supply chain needs the commitment and expertise of local partners, working alongside central government to support businesses who want to invest here. The Centres for Offshore Renewable Engineering (CORE) partnership offers an integrated and cooperative approach between Government and Local Enterprise Partnerships in England, to provide the best possible support to businesses choosing England as an investment location. The Rt Hon Matthew Hancock MP Minister of State for Business, Enterprise and Energy CORE brings together the relevant expertise from UK Central Government and the six major investment hubs in England to support business growth and showcase opportunities for foreign direct investment (FDI) for the offshore wind sector.

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE USE 18 April 2018 London Thamesport Boosts Short Sea Capacity Dutch-based transport company A2B-online Container B.V. has added a fourth weekly sailing on its service between Hutchison Ports London Thamesport and Moerdijk in The Netherlands. The new sailing is inaugurated today (18 April 2018) by the first call of the m.s. We are seeing a growing demand in the short-sea container market as a response to increasing labour shortages in the driver-accompanied market and uncertainty around Brexit. We are delighted that, working closely with our partners at A2B-online, we are able to help them grow their business by providing a highly efficient service and direct access to key South East markets.” Gerard de Groot, Managing Director of A2B-online, said: “With all the initiatives we have developed to offer first-class customer service, volume is still increasing despite talks regarding Brexit. We have spare capacity to adjust more sailings to London Thamesport if and when required.” Bart van ‘t Hof, Group Sales Director A2B-online, added: “If it is decided to go for a hard Brexit more volume is expected to be routed from Moerdijk to London Thamesport. This because of customs procedures that may apply that will have a considerably (negative) effect on the supply chain for goods arriving the UK accompanied by either Channel Tunnel and/or Dover by ferry.” A2B-online Container B.V.
