Undergraduate Connors : Biography

Jack Connors, Jr. is a founding partner of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Inc., a full-service marketing communications company. Under his leadership, Hill, Holliday evolved from a one-room shop, founded in 1968, to one of the top 20 advertising firms in the .

Early in his career, he became interested and active in the philanthropic life of the city of , serving on boards and leading civic campaigns. In fact, throughout , Jack Connors is known for these efforts as well as for his business acumen. Boston Magazine named him one of the most powerful people in Boston, and he’s been a major force behind initiatives such as The Campaign for Catholic Schools and The Edward M. Kennedy Institute.

As an articulate advocate ’s world-class hospitals, Jack served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Partners HealthCare System for 16 years and became Chairman Emeritus in July 2012. He served on the Boston Board of Trustees for over 30 years and was Chair of that board for two terms. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Partners-In-Health, the HomeBase Program, the Board of Fellows at Harvard Medical School, and Board of Dean’s Advisors for the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Camp Harbor View is arguably the charity that is closest to Jack’s heart. When the late Mayor asked for his help in identifying a solution for the problem of unattended children and teens experiencing boredom and violence during the summer months, Jack proposed that he raise enough money to build a summer camp on Long Island in Boston Harbor, and Camp Harbor View was born.

Born in Boston, Jack is a graduate of and resides in Brookline,

Massachusetts. He and his wife, Eileen, have four children and thirteen grandchildren. CONNORS SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW

In the spirit of the generosity of Mr. Jack Connors, Regis College is proud to offer the following four year, full-tuition scholarship to an incoming member of the Class of 2025.

Scope: The Connors Scholarship is a four year (eight semester), full-tuition undergraduate scholarship (fall and spring semesters only) available to one (1) member of the incoming freshman class entering Regis College in the Fall of 2021. The successful recipient must live in Regis College housing.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Regis College Sloane Scholarship a student must:

1. Have a cumulative recalculated high school Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.5. The Regis College Office of Undergraduate Admission recalculates GPAs on a weighted 4.0 scale.

2. Apply for undergraduate admission as a first year student via no later than January 1, 2021.

3. Have an affiliation with a Boston area services organization. Specifically, as an active participant or volunteer as evidenced in the student’s Common Application and letter of Recommendation.

4. Plan to be a residential student (living on campus)

Regis will not consider students who do not satisfy these criteria.

Application Process:

Eligible students may apply according to the following process:

1. Have their principal, headmaster, guidance counselor, teacher or academic advisor complete a Recommendation Form by January 1, 2021.

2. In January 2021, The Connors Scholarship Committee will make an initial selection of eligible students based on their recommendation, admission application, and association affiliation. Selected students will move forward to the interview process. 4. Member(s) of the Connors Scholarship Committee will interview (in person or virtually) eligible students.

5. The Connors Scholarship Committee will make final selections for the Regis Connors Scholarship from the group of interviewed students.

Evaluation Criteria

Successful recipients of the Regis Connors Scholarship will have demonstrated their eligibility through:

1. Academic achievement 2. Admission Application (GPA, extracurricular activities, essay, letter(s) of recommendation) 3. Interview 4. The Regis College Connors Scholarship Recommendation Form 5. Extracurricular involvement with a Boston area service organization (as indicated in the admission application, recommendation form, and interview) 6. Preference is given to applicants who have an affiliation Camp Harbor View as a counselor or camper.

Ongoing Requirements:

In order to maintain the Regis Connors Scholarship, successful recipients must:

1. Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 while a student at Regis College. 2. Participate in at least one service activity per academic year as part of the Founder’s Day Program or a formally sponsored service activity with the Center for Ministry and Service. 3. Remain in on campus residential housing. 4. Participate in at least one Admission Office event per academic year. 5. Complete an internship with the Center for Ministry and Service or a non-profit service organization to understand the role of service in the contemporary non-profit organization. (External, non-profit sites be verified by the Regis Center for Internships and Career Development.)
