Whose sins you forgive are given them” (Jn 20:19-23). What an extraordinary gift– the gift of divine forgiveness! Prepare for by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation! During Lent, the Cathedral of St. Joseph will be open on Mondays from 7-8 pm for Lenten Confessions with Holy Hour beginning on Monday, March 11th. We hope that this makes it easy for you to come to Church on your way home from work or running errands. If you have not received the Sacrament in some time, please feel welcome to come back to Church to experience God’s forgiveness.

Lenten Regulations include fast and abstinence for those whose health permits. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Fasting means to refrain from eating food between meals and to eat only one full meal with the other two being lighter meals. It is required of those who are 18-59 years old on the days noted above. Liquids are permitted between meals. Abstinence means to refrain from eating meat. It is required of those 14 years of age and older on the days listed above.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The 48th Annual Greater Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 9th starting at 11 am. Come down to the parade route early and get your seat! The parade begins at Capitol Avenue by the State Capitol, takes a left on Main Street, a left on Asylum, a left on Ford Street, and then ends by the Memorial Arch. If you can not make it downtown, the parade will be broadcast live on FOX CT WTIC-TV at 11:30 am (rebroadcast on St. Patrick’s Day at noon). There will be some road closures along the parade route before the parade. Parking is available in various lots and garages near the XL and Convention Centers.

Safety, Security and Access: The new entrance and elevator are now fully functional, so you may park in the Asylum avenue lot and enter the Cathedral through the west entrance. This makes access to the Cathedral much easier. So that everyone who comes to the Cathedral may pray and worship in peace, we each need to do our part. Obviously we abide by the norm, “If you see something, say something!” As a parish located in the city and with our doors (literally) open to all, extra vigilance is needed. Should you be approached by someone asking for money, please tell one of the priests, one of the two security guards, Peter our Sacristan or one of the ushers or other liturgical ministers. We have procedures in place for assisting those in need or those who might just be “panhandling.” It normally is not a good idea to give cash and please do not agree to give anyone you do not know a ride in your car. Also parents are asked NOT to allow children to go the bathrooms by themselves. They must be accompanied by an adult. Now with the new and much-needed addition, containing an elevator and restrooms, it will be more difficult to know who is actually in the Cathedral at a given moment. Do not leave items unattended in the pews when you go forward to receive Holy Communion. SEVENTH S UNDAY IN O RDINARY T IME F EBRUARY 24, 2019 : Archbishop Leonard P. We offer our gifts as a true act of faith that reflects our love for you and for our neighbor. May every person who benefits materially and spiritually as a result give praise and thanks where it is due, to you, Heavenly Father, the author of all that is good, to your beloved son Christ our , and to the Holy Spirit, the bond of unity and love, One God, living and reigning forever and ever. Amen.

Ash Wednesday Schedule: On Ash Wednesday, March 6th, we will have Imposition of Ashes from 7 am-7 pm as well as at our 7:30 am & 12:10 pm Masses at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Ash Wednesday will mark the beginning of the Lenten season. It is a day of both fasting and abstinence. Catholics worldwide go to Church to receive the mark of the cross on the forehead. We are asked to sacrifice more, attend Mass more, pray more, go to Confession more, and help others more during these 40 days of Lent. We are reminded to be pious and humble. As Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others” (:1-2).
