Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord May 8, 2016 From Our Pastor Pastoral Staff

Dear Parishioners, Pastor Monsignor Henry Breier This past weekend was a busy one for Queen of All Saints. On Saturday, our 314.380.4020 church was filled with parishioners, school families, and visitors at both 11 [email protected] a.m. and 2 p.m. for our celebration of First Holy Communion. The girls were dressed in their finest white dresses and the boys in their dress pants and Parochial Vicar blazers. For me moments like this are so inspiring because of the great Father Peter Fonseca excitement that is exhibited by the children as they receive Our Lord. My 314.380.4021 prayer for them is that each one of them will forever remember this moment [email protected] when the Lord drew so close to them.

On this past Wednesday, we welcomed Archbishop Carlson to the parish for Deacons the Sacrament of Confirmation for our 8th Graders in our Elementary School Deacon Richard Schellhase and Parish School of Religion. I would like to extend a word of thanks to 314.846.8207 ext 251 their teachers for preparing them to receive the Sacrament. He challenged Deacon Joseph Wingbermuehle each one of them to take responsibility for the living of their faith, and that 314.846.8207 ext 252 with the reception of this sacrament they are now strengthened by the Holy Rev. Mr. Scott Scheiderer Spirit. I am so grateful to each of these students for saying “yes” to the Holy 314.846.8207 ext 227 Spirit. Elementary School Principal Both in the East and the West the practice of depicting the Blessed Virgin Shannon Sanchez Mary wearing a regal crown came into use in the time following the Council 314.380.4025 of Ephesus (A.D. 431). In the West, from the end of the 16th century, the [email protected] tradition became widespread for the faithful to crown images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this coming Wednesday, May 11th, at the 8:15 a.m. Mass Coordinator of our grade school community will take part in the Rite of Crowning of the Religious Education Blessed Virgin Mary. Everyone is invited to take part in this Mass and Parish School of Religion crowning. Ann Bender 314.380.4011 During the month of May, we also take time out of our busy schedules to call [email protected] to mind the great gift we have in our mothers. Through the love and support of our parents, we are who we are today. Thus, it is so important that you and Director of I take time to express in a very profound way our gratitude to them. May they Religious Education know today how important they are to us each day. Adult Faith Formation Sadie Wingbermuehle When I first came to Queen of All Saints a little over twenty years ago, there 314.380.4024 was a phrase that Msgr. Jovanovic, the staff, and parish council used to guide [email protected] them: “A Parish for the People.” While that phrase may have faded over the years from our bulletin and print material, it is not far from my heart at all. Liturgical Music After almost 6 months at Queen of All Saints it truly is a “Parish for the People.” Over and over again I am edified by the people that take leadership Christopher Dunn roles, who get involved and make miracles happen. 314.846.8207 ext. 371

Thus, you will begin to see this phrase appear again. In addition, you will see a new image beginning to appear on our website, letters, bulletins, and print material. Father Fonseca and I have been working on the development of a new logo for our parish. The image is on a blue and silver background, the color of our Blessed Mother. The crown at the top calls to mind that we are under the patronage of our Blessed Mother. In the bottom portion is the Fleur-de-Lis which reminds us of our connection to the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. In traditional heraldry the lily represents purity, and in turn the Virgin Mary, and its three petals symbolize the Blessed Trinity. The image still has some tweaking that will occur over the next few weeks. Sacrament of the Sick Msgr. Breier Contact the Parish Office at 314.846.8207

Stewardship Alive

Peace Be with You

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you.” (John 14: 27) These familiar words from the Gospel of John invite us to reflect on the great need for peace in our world today.

The Annual Catholic Appeal is an invitation to reflect Christ’s peace. Thousands of people turn to the archdiocese for hope and healing every day. In our parishes and apostolates, they experience the light and love of Jesus.

This Easter season, we can open ourselves to Christ’s peace, and joyfully share that peace with others by making a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal.

Growing in Christ Campaign

Growing in Christ! Campaign Underway!

Our campaign continues to make good progress. This past week the campaign brochure was given a final proofing, approved and sent to press. The brochure will be mailed to the parish so that everyone has the chance to contribute to the “Growing In Christ!” initiative. Please read it cover to cover, as it contains important details about parish projects and offers ways for parishioners to consider supporting this vital campaign. The Executive Campaign Committee continues to meet regularly, tabulate new pledges and complete personal visits to parishioners. Committee members will be available after each Mass in the coming weeks to answer questions, explain the significance of this campaign and what it means to the future of Queen of All Saints Parish.

Next week, Monsignor Breier will address the parish at all Masses. Monsignor will provide an update on the campaign, review the campaign case statements of needs, and suggest ways for parishioners to get involved. The following weekend, members of our lay leadership team will speak to parishioners from the pulpit and express their thoughts on this worthwhile endeavor. Both Monsignor and our lay speakers will provide instructions on how and when to respond. Please mark your calendars.

“Commitment Weekend” is Saturday and Sunday, June 4th & 5th. This is the deadline by which we would like all parishioners to please return their gifts. For convenience, the brochure mailing will contain a pledge card and a return envelope. We ask parishioners to please place their gift in the offertory collection on this weekend. If you prefer, your gift can be mailed or personally delivered to the Parish Office. The brochure will offer guidelines for giving. Please consider a pledged to the best of your ability. We are kindly recommending a 5 year pledge period, but all gifts will be graciously accepted. Your pledge can be paid monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Special reminders will be sent to you so you can honor your pledge.

Thank you, Happy Mother’s Day and together we will be successful .
