There are many opportunities to volunteer and help serve. We have 44 available spots to work in the concession stand or at the gate this weekend. We will have more next weekend! Games will be played in both gyms with lots of activity. It’s a wonderful time to showcase our school and support our young athletes! It’s also a great time for our students to receive needed volunteer hours. Our girls’ tournaments this weekend as well as our boys’ tournaments next weekend are the largest athletic fundraising events that we host at the school during the year. Every dollar we raise goes right back to helping make our athletic program stronger and more affordable for our families. If you have a younger child that is not yet eligible for athletics, working together at the gate or in the concession stand is a fun way to get them excited about what’s to come! School athletics is a highlight for many of our students! Many schools require parent volunteer hours; we are fortunate that at All Saints we have parents (and students) that are willing to step up and help when needed. Thanks for your continued support and for donating your time. It’s a great pleasure to work and parent alongside each of you. Sunday Day! December 3rd! (Sell Tickets) PATRIOT SPOTLIGHT All Saints senior Hannah Hays has been selected for the 2018 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She will perform in Febru- ary with the Honors Ensemble. Participation in one of the five Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from across the world. Earlier this year, Hays auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in her application and audition recording. She will join other performers from all 50 United States plus the District of Columbia, Guam, six Canadian provinces, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Qatar, South Korea, and the United Kingdom for a special performance at world-famous Carnegie Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. “Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing,” Program Director Morgan Smith said. “We processed more than 18,000 nominations this year and have selected nearly 700 of the most talented student performers from around the world. Work- ing with these conductors and performing at Carnegie Hall is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians never forget.” Finalists will come together in New York City for five days in February. They will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other Finalists, and get a taste of New York City. Two performances, an Honors Choral Performance and an Honors Instrumental Performance, will take place Sunday, February 4, and are open to the public. Tickets can be purchased beginning 60 days prior to the performance through the Carnegie Hall box office. “I’m really excited to be singing at Carnegie!” Hays said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I also love New York City so I can’t wait to go back.” 4th GRADE CONTINUES “BE KIND IN LUBBOCK” ACTIVITIES It’s not just a classroom lesson, it’s a way of life for our Patriot 4th Congratulations graders.

  • A Study Investigating the Relaxation Effects of the Music Track Weightless by Marconi Union in Consultation with Lyz Cooper
A Study Investigating the Relaxation Effects of the Music Track Weightless by Marconi Union in consultation with Lyz Cooper RADOX SPA/MISCHIEF PR OBJECTIVE The aim of the study is twofold. Firstly to validate the claim that the new track ‘Weightless’ by Marconi Union (commissioned by Radox Spa) is more relaxing than other music tracks that are considered relaxing and secondly to compare the relaxation effects of a massage with the Radox Spa track. INTRODUCTION BY DR DAVID LEWIS - AUTHER OF ONE MINUTE STRESS MANAGER ‘Music has charms to sooth a savage breast,’ wrote the 17th century poet William Congreve, in his poem The Mourning Bride. This new study for Radox confirms the truth of his words. Certain pieces of music do indeed possess the power to calm even the most stressed out individuals by soothing frazzled minds and relaxing bodies. The study confirmed certain music has the capacity to lower heart rate, slow breathing and decrease levels of the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ in the blood. Other researchers have reported that music can also speed recovery from surgery and help overcome anxiety and depression. How can music exert such a powerful effect? Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions. When listening to music we engage both the logical left and artistic right sides of our brain, which is why it can exert surprising and positive benefits, not only in combating daily stress but also in aiding such mentally challenging activities as memorising, learning a language, focusing attention and developing physical coordination.

  • May 21, 2019, Dear Speaker Pelosi, Leader Mccarthy
May 21, 2019, Dear Speaker Pelosi, Leader McCarthy, Chairman Nadler, and Ranking Member Collins, We, the undersigned national, state, and local education, civil and human rights, LGBTQ+, labor, national security, faith, grassroots, and immigrants’ rights organizations, write to express our support for the American Dream and Promise Act as it goes before the House Judiciary Committee for markup. The legislation would put immigrant youth known as Dreamers and long-time beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) on a roadmap to citizenship. Over the past two years, the Trump administration has taken steps to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and strip status from nearly every individual with TPS and all of those with DED. Only a small number of preliminary injunctions prevent these individuals from facing the prospect of detention and deportation. The administration’s actions are inflicting enormous pain and uncertainty on more than a million people—not to mention their families and their communities who face an impending separation crisis. These individuals live in every state and every congressional district. They are our classmates and our teachers, our coworkers and our employers. They worship with us and help to keep us safe. They contribute to our great nation in myriad ways. The average DACA recipient came to the country at age six, while the average TPS holder has been in the country for 22 years. Between them, they have nearly 500,000 U.S. citizen children, not to mention many hundreds of thousands more U.S. citizen parents, spouses, and siblings, all of whom are suffering already and will suffer still more if the Trump administration is successful in ending their protections.
