BASKETBALL HOME GAMES - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED It’s time for the All Saints MS Boys and Girls Tournaments! There are many opportunities to volunteer and help serve. We have 44 available spots to work in the concession stand or at the gate this weekend. We will have more next weekend! Games will be played in both gyms with lots of activity. It’s a wonderful time to showcase our school and support our young athletes!

It’s also a great time for our students to receive needed volunteer hours. Our girls’ tournaments this weekend as well as our boys’ tournaments next weekend are the largest athletic fundraising events that we host at the school during the year. Every dollar we raise goes right back to helping make our athletic program stronger and more affordable for our families.

If you have a younger child that is not yet eligible for athletics, working together at the gate or in the concession stand is a fun way to get them excited about what’s to come! School athletics is a highlight for many of our students!

Many schools require parent volunteer hours; we are fortunate that at All Saints we have parents (and students) that are willing to step up and help when needed. Thanks for your continued support and for donating your time. It’s a great pleasure to work and parent alongside each of you.

PATRIOT SPOTLIGHT All Saints senior Hannah Hays has been selected for the 2018 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She will perform in Febru- ary with the Honors Ensemble. Participation in one of the five Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from across the world. Earlier this year, Hays auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in her application and audition recording. She will join other performers from all 50 United States plus the District of Columbia, Guam, six Canadian provinces, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Qatar, South Korea, and the United Kingdom for a special performance at world-famous Carnegie Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. “Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing,” Program Director Morgan Smith said. “We processed more than 18,000 nominations this year and have selected nearly 700 of the most talented student performers from around the world. Work- ing with these conductors and performing at Carnegie Hall is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians never forget.” Finalists will come together in New York City for five days in February. They will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other Finalists, and get a taste of New York City. Two performances, an Honors Choral Performance and an Honors Instrumental Performance, will take place Sunday, February 4, and are open to the public. Tickets can be purchased beginning 60 days prior to the performance through the Carnegie Hall box office. “I’m really excited to be singing at Carnegie!” Hays said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I also love New York City so I can’t wait to go back.”

4th GRADE CONTINUES “BE KIND IN LUBBOCK” ACTIVITIES It’s not just a classroom lesson, it’s a way of life for our Patriot 4th Congratulations graders. The class delivered the homily in chapel on National Kindness Day where they shared bible verses and the meaning of kindness from Patriot Artists a 4th grade perspective. Weekly lessons of kindness are being taught of the Week in the classroom and promoted around school. The 4th grade Christ- mas party will include making scarves and writing letters to those less for 11/13 fortunate. It will be fun to see what this clever group of students has in Ziva Rigsby (Pre-1st) store for expanding the kindness campaign! Stay tuned, it’s sure to be a sweet treat for all of us. for 11/27 Lyla McClain (1)

THEATRE ONE ACT PLAY RESULTS Congratulations High School One Act Play on your fourth place finish and State Honors at the TAPPS 2A State Contest in Kerrville on November 15-16.

Senior Raymond Rider, who performed two different roles, was named as the State Best Actor. Junior Brooke Stevenson was named as State All Star Cast and junior Susannah Bumstead was named State All Star Cast Honorable Mention.

They competed against eight schools in the State Contest with their 40 minute adaption of Moises Kaufman’s “33 Variations.”

Written in 2007, the play simultaneously re- plays the creative process behind Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations and the research of musi- cologist Katherine Brandt to understand why Beethoven was compelled to write 33 different variations to the music composed by a minor music publisher. The strained relationship between Brandt and her daughter as Brandt battles the pro- gression of ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease) is depicted simultaneously with Beethoven’s increasing deaf- ness. The action is portrayed in Beethoven’s time and the present, sometimes switching back and forth between the two eras. At times characters from both time periods are on stage simultane- ously.

The contest requires all plays be performed in one act lasting no more than 40 minutes. Sixty percent of the scoring is based upon acting while 40 percent is judged on other elements like sets, costumes, and lighting.

All Saints defeated four schools in TAPPS 2-A District to become the district champions on October 26 in Lubbock. All Saints placed first and earned nine All Star awards. Senior Raymond Rider was named District Best Actor. Ju- nior Brooke Stevenson was named District Best Actress. All Star Cast was awarded to senior Hannah Hays, juniors Susannah Bumstead, Meghan Mitchell, and Bri Sanchez, and freshman Liberty DeLeon. All Star Technical Crew was awarded to senior Mallory Staggs and junior Abi Jordan. Other cast members include technical crew members junior Tyler Latta and senior Zac Paston.

ALL SAINTS CHESS TOURNAMENT RESULTS The All Saints Chess Team, represented by fifth gradersJess Gaines and Hayden Hillin, and third graders Jacob Moss, and Joshua Oyenuga, played in the Check with Tech chess tournament on Saturday, November 18 at Estacado High School. They each played four rounds. Jess earned 1st Place K-5 Rated Individual, and Jess and Hayden won 1st Place K-5 Rated Team based upon total points earned. Joshua and Jacob each played in their first tournament, and did very well against an increasingly large and talented group of players. Each of these young people did a fantastic job of representing themselves and All Saints – well done! Our next tournament will be in February. For more information, please contact Cliff Hillin ([email protected]).

Middle School Basketball Middle School basketball is off and running for all four of the All Saints’ middle school teams. Fifty 7th & 8th grad- ers are participating in MS basketball this season (23 girls & 27 boys), so the excitement level is high. The middle school has played games against Lubbock Christian, Plainview Christian and Christ the King and more than held their own. Every team has won so far, and both boys’ teams are undefeated. This weekend All Saints will host their annual 7th & 8th grade girls’ tournaments. Eighteen teams will be in the two tournaments this weekend making the All Saints middle school girls and boys tournaments the largest middle school tournaments in the west Texas area. Lots of fun and excitement these next two weekends as All Saints hosts the boys’ 7th & 8th grade tournaments next weekend December 8 & 9.

7 ADVENT OFFERINGS Service to God in our community

It is a long-standing tradition at All Saints Episcopal School to ask students and their families to give of themselves so that others might catch a glimpse of the true joy of the Advent Season. We will continue this tradition with grade-level service projects. Preschool through Kindergarten students are gathering donations for Buckner Children and Family Services. These items will be distributed to the children at their Annual Christmas Party in December. A list of suggested items will be sent home this week. Pre-First is collecting art supplies for High Point Village. Information will be sent home to the parents this week. First Grade is collecting items for children visiting the Covenant Outpatient Cancer Center. A complete list will be sent home this week. Second Grade students will collect various items for the Ronald McDonald House. Information will be sent home this week. Third Grade students will donate to the Garrison Institute for Aging. Information will be sent home this week. Fourth grade students will remember the patrons of South Plains Food Bank during the Advent Season. Information will be sent home to parents this week. Fifth Grade has adopted a single mom with two children from Buckner Family Pathways. More information is being provided to the fifth grade parents.

The Sixth Grade will remember the Salvation Army during Advent. They will stuff stockings for children. Seventh Grade collected over 100 new and gently used coats for Project Impact. Our 7th graders will also help serve an evening meal at Lubbock Impact and assist the children that attend with getting a picture made with Santa. Eighth Grade is assisting The Haven Animal Shelter. The Haven is in great need for pet supplies, and a list will be sent home. High School students are collecting gift cards to donate to the children at the Children’s Home of Lubbock and will spend a day helping the Salvation Army “fill the Christmas orders”. All

Saints students will go to the Salvation Army’s warehouse to select and package the toy 8 requests from individual children. 9 10
