This is why prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit play such an important role in the work the team is doing. As this issue of The Chimes is going to print, the team has finished Zoom interviews of the 11 applicants and is working on narrowing the field FAITH THE SIZE OF A MUSTARD SEED of candidates for in-person interviews. September was a big month for our youth, and we are gearing up for an exciting fall! We are continuing with Sunday School between the two services. We have two groups made up of 5th-12th graders who meet in rooms 210 and 211. Kathy and Madeline Smith are regularly teaching our younger group, and Phil Dittmer is helping me teach our older group. Thank you to Madeline and Phil for volunteering their time and to Kathy for all her help. Each week, we are talking about an event or something happening in our world and how it relates to our gospel reading for that morning. We are using a blog put together by the ELCA called Faith Lens. Check it out at https://blogs.elca.org/faithlens/ As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, I was in the process of finding an additional time for our 6th-12th graders to meet for youth group. It would not surprise anyone to discover that teenagers are very busy, and we couldn’t find just one time to meet for this academic year. Therefore, we are dividing the academic year into three series for youth group that will meet on different days and times. (See below.) Each series will have a different focus. For Series 1, we will focus on Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s invitation to practice the Way of Love.

Series 1 (Sundays, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.) September 15, 22, 29 October 6, 20, 27 Series 2 (Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) November 6, 13, 20 December 4, 11, 18 Series 3 (Sundays, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.) January 26 February 2, 9, 16, 23 March 1

The youth are also going on retreat! The weekend we are scheduled to practice “Go” for the Way of Love (October 11-13), we will head to Manhattan for our retreat. While in Manhattan we will go do service work, we will go and seek God in creation and the care of creation, and we will go and build strong relationships through team building activities. Thank you to St. Paul’s, Manhattan, for letting us lodge at their church. We will be back for the 10:30 a.m. service, so please ask our youth about their retreat that day! It has been a pleasure to be your curate and to work with our awesome teenagers. If you are interested in helping out with Sunday School or Youth Group, then please do reach out.
