One Hebrew word for “praise” is yadah, meaning “to praise, give thanks, or confess.” Another word often translated “praise” is halal (the root of hallelujah), meaning “to praise, honor, or commend.” Both terms contain the idea of giving thanks and honor to one who is worthy of praise. A reading of Psalm 150 provides more than a dozen references to praising God!

This month, we have the opportunity to praise some of our Chapel Angels for their generosity to our worship experi- ences. Dustin and Haley Brooks, parents to Claire and Caroline Brooks (PK), made a kind donation to the Chapel Fund. Through their generosity, the many new appointments have been purchased to enhance our worship experiences, includ- ing: a new Advent ring and oil candles for the MS and HS services, new vestments/robes for our youngest acolytes, a new oil candle and altar cross for daily use in the PLC service, fi ve purifi cators for use in our Eucharists, a new bookcase for use in our Kindergarten Godly Play classes, and more. Praise be for the Brooks family for their support of the spiritual life at All Saints!

With the scheduling changes to our daily worship experiences at All Saints, the need was quickly identifi ed for more Books of Common Prayer and Hymnals. These two books have provided backbone and foundation for the corporate worship offered at All Saints for sixty years. The growth in enrollment has also contributed to this need. Bill and Pat Russell, grandparents to Spencer (7) and Elizabeth (4) Johnson, have donated most generously to facilitate the purchase of new Books of Common Prayer and Hymnals. Bill is past Board of Trustees member, and Pat is a past chaplain at All Saints.

In addition, Dick and Susan Pollard have provided much needed money to complete the purchase of the book sets and a book cart. The Pollards are parents to three former students, and Susan is a past and current Board of Trustees member. Praise be for the Russell and Pollard families for their gifts this month, as well as their longstanding support of All Saints Episcopal School!

Peace, Chaplain Paige+

Dear All Saints Family,

I wanted to give you an update on the Head of School search. We have been both impressed and humbled by the strength and character of the educators that are excited to join the All Saints community as its next leader. This is a testimony to the great work taking place on our campus under Dr. Bennett’s leadership. While it is not possible to replace Dr. Bennett, we are confident that the next leader will build on his suc- cess and continue the positive trajectory for All Saints. This is an exciting time for our community and we appreciate your continued prayers for discernment.

After studying resumes and submissions from all across the country, the Search Committee met to select who would be invited for an interview. We have now completed a full round of in-depth interviews involving those selected candidates. The committee then worked hard to identify the finalists that would be invited to campus to spend time with the All Saints community. Please look for more information about this in the coming weeks as we hope that you will take the time to visit with these finalists. We are confident that you will be impressed and excited about the future of All Saints.

We appreciate the leadership and expertise that Fr. David Madison and Dr. Tad Bird have provided the All Saints Search Committee.

Sincerely,

Paula Key Chair, Search Committee

2015-2016 HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK WINS AMERICAN SCHOLASTIC AWARD The 2015-2016 high school yearbook was awarded the “Best Theme” and “First Place” awards by the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA). The organization judges thousands of yearbooks from across the United States annually and scores each on a point system to award FIRST, SECOND, or THIRD PLACE in its classification.

The ASHS yearbook earned a total of 935 points out of a possible 1,000 to earn the First Place Award for the Small School Division. This is the fourth consecutive year for the school to earn First Place.

In addition, the yearbook was also awarded “Best Theme” from all the yearbooks entered in the country in the Small School Division. This award is selected by the judges based on the yearbook’s theme creativity and consistent use throughout the book. The 2015-2016 yearbook theme was “First and Four” to describe the school’s first graduating class and first year to have all four grade in attendance. A die-cut 1 on the cover with a photo showing through the die cut with the first graduating class in caps and gowns lined up in a the shape of 1 begins portraying the “First and Four” theme. Each yearbook spread contained a quote section in which either four people were asked the same question or one person was asked four different questions. The book repeatedly uses the concept of “one and four” throughout the book in a variety of ways.

Editors for the 2015-2016 yearbook staff were DJ McCallister, Mitchell Davidson, and Jacob Cates. Staff members were Jaci Garrett, Matt Harper, Alyssa Smith, Bryce Smith, Kate Borthwick, Sajan Dihenia, Sara Going, Ally Muzyka, Cole Hutcheson, Taylor Renfroe, and Nisha Tarafdar.

8 BOXTOPS COMPETITION IS UNDERWAY - HAVE YOU DOWNLOADED THE APP YET? The BoxTops competition is well underway! Grade levels are competing and money is being earned for our school. Have you bagged up the BoxTops from your home and sent them with your student to school?

Did you know that BoxTops has introduced an App that you can download on your smartphone? Using the App we can earn BONUS boxtops for the school on items that traditionally don’t have boxtops and also for some items that have the paper BoxTops. The list includes several brands of yogurt, soups, frozen pizzas, cereals, juices, Lysol wipes, paper towel, Glad bags, and more.

You will need to add the school name while creating your profile. After that every time you shop, just se- lect the items that you have purchased that match the eligible list and take a picture of the receipt. Once the receipt is processed the money associated with the BoxTops will appear on your activity page and will be automatically credited to the school account. It is a convenient way to raise money for our school using the items that we normally buy. We encourage all parents to download and use the App. Other schools have literally raised thousands of dollars using through BoxTops and the BoxTops App.

Please contact Priya Gill at [email protected] if you have any questions regarding the BoxTops program Let’s all get clipping!

To the Men of All Saints:

A new school year is in full swing at All Saints! We begin our 60th year with record enrollment, the excitement of having many new families, and the prospect of various opportunities for service and involvement with our kids.

To the 70 plus new men and the many returning men we extend a word of welcome and introduction from the D.O.G.S. or “Dads of Great Students.” This group includes all the dads, stepdads, granddads, uncles, etc. – if you’re in that group….you are a D.O.G.

Our purpose is to connect with our kids and their school. Statistics have shown that when there is male involvement in a child’s school the child does better academically, socially, and in life in general. The D.O.G.S. have for several years now offered opportunity for participation with our kids and with other men and families at All Saints.

This year the DOGS Steering Committee has asked that we put a strong emphasis on project orientated involvement. We have asked the Division Heads of the school to share with us various needs and projects with which the D.O.G.S. may help.

As these projects are identified and planned, we will be in touch and trust you will join us in our efforts to strengthen our families and our school.

For questions and more information please contact Bob Stuart, Office of Institutional Advancement at: 806-745-7701 (office) - 806-787-9502 (mobile).
