Off the slopes • For those who prefer their fun sitting down, Tube Town near Mt Piper offers family friendly inner tube rides with two connecting rope tows. • Wilderness Sports offer snow shoe tours to see the mountains in a different light. Choose from guided tours such as a gourmet adventure complete with lunch to a photographer’s journey to capture the best of the wintery landscape. Apres-ski • Once the lifts have closed for the day, there are many welcoming bars and clubs; enjoy comedy night at the Sundeck Hotel or, for something more refined, you can ski to the piano bar at the Base 1720 Bar and Restaurant or Curve Bar.

Just below the snowy dome of , skiers reach the top of Karel’s T-Bar and look across the tops of the mountains before heading off on the longest ride in the Snowy Mountains, a leg burning 5.9kms. Nearly 700m below, through boulders and trees, is Thredbo, a village that attracts mountain bikers and trekkers in summer and, in winter, skiers and boarders keen for an all-rounders snow experience in the Snowy Mountains.

On the slopes • Carve a path through the longest unbroken ski runs in the country with 480 hectares of terrain to explore. • Watch the spectacular flare runs that light up the mountains like a river of molten lava above Thredbo village on Saturday nights. Kids can also enjoy Thursday evening fibre optic flare runs. • The popular Mother Bagjump offers Intermediate and advanced riders the chance to practice jumps, spins and flips with the confidence of landing safely on the 15m x 15m inflatable bag. • Challenge yourself at the Advanced Pop Up Park, a mobile terrain park that can pop up anywhere on any given day featuring butter pads, spines, a huge range of rails that has the metal to challenge most pros plus a line of jumps ranging from 35 to 60ft. • Enjoy twilight riding on Friday Flat, Thursday and Saturday evenings in July and August until 7.30pm under floodlights. Off the slopes • Ride the gondola through trees to the Eagle’s Nest restaurant for a romantic dinner at night. • Treat your aching limbs with a rejuvenating visit to the tranquil surroundings of The Denman Day Spa. • Take a snow shoe adventure into the back country and if you are feeling fit you can even head to the top of Mt Kosciuszko. • Thredbo is well-known for its summer walks but it is still possible to explore on foot during winter. The Heritage walk provides a great insight into the area revealing information about the architectural and Aboriginal history in the Thredbo Valley. • Drop in to the Thredbo Leisure Centre. If you haven’t worked up a sweat on the mountain, there is a gym, yoga classes, an Olympic pool, waterslide and squash court. • Explore the Ski Museum and learn about the region’s skiing past from memorabilia and photos on display.

Après-ski • There are a variety of restaurants around the village from fine dining at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel’s Segreto Restaurant, an authentic Brazilian style BBQ at Sante Churrasco or The Knickerbocker Bar and Restaurant for some delicious European/Australian cuisine. • Make a night of it and stop by the Black Bear Inn, sampling a few of their 80 varieties of Schnapps. • Have a well-earned drink and enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. • Enjoy a tapas style meal and catch the action of the latest sporting game at Berntis. • Party late into the night and wee hours of the morning at Schuss Bar and Keller Bar, Thredbo’s Nightclub.

Located just eight kilometres beyond Perisher Valley, Charlotte Pass is Australia’s highest at 1,760 metres above sea level. Completely snowbound at the top of Australia, the only way in or out is by over-snow vehicles, which pick you up at the Perisher Terminal and transport you through the beautiful snow scenery to the resort. This pristine alpine resort has sweeping views of Mount Kosciuszko and offers some of the country’s best skiing.

New in 2012 • A weekly night kid’s flare run is giving the little guys a chance to show their stuff. Kids grab their flares and head down the designated runs. On the slopes • Selwyn offers lessons for everyone, from experts looking to fine tune their skills to kids stepping onto the slopes for the very first time, with a combination of private and group lessons available. Thredbo Winter Opening Weekend, 9-11 June: The official opening of Thredbo's 2012 winter season. Featuring activities and entertainment, all weekend long.

Weirdfest 2012, Selwyn Snowfields, 30 June: In its second year, this event follows the same format as the popular Boxes for Days events in Japan and the US. Riders take on an ultimate obstacle course, trying to get to the end of a stack of park features, all combined together to make one "Super Feature". This year, there will also be a second competition which combines the Super Feature with a high ollie component. Entry is free, so get dressed up and give it a go. HOW TO GET TO AND FROM THE NSW SNOWFIELDS

The NSW snowfields are easily accessible from Australia’s capitals.

By plane There are regular flights from all capital cities to with Qantas, Virgin Blue, Brindabella Airlines and Aeropelican.

From 8 June 2012, Brindabella Airlines offers 20 weekly flights, six days a week, from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains Airport at Cooma. Sydney to the Snowy Mountains airfares start from $145* (terms and conditions apply).

From 1st July, services will also operate from Newcastle via Sydney to the Snowy Mountains six days a week (except Tuesday).

By coach • Snowy Mountains Airport Shuttles run from Snowy Mountains Airport to Jindabyne, , Thredbo and Perisher. Chartered services exist between Canberra and Selwyn.
