Apart from its overture, the brilliant, spirited opera “L’Italiana in L’Italiana Algeri” by Gioacchino Rossini had long been neglected on opera and concert stages. Now, in honor of its 200th anniversary, it returns with in Algeri a real “find” for the title role, Anna Goryachova, and in a staging that’s (The Italian Girl in Algiers) always faithful to the music, in spite of its great expressive freedom. Orchestra Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna “L’Italiana” is certainly the most “buffo” of Rossini’s buffo operas, with Conductor José Ramón Encinar get-up-and-go rhythms and flashy colors. Davide Livermore – one of Chorus Coro del Teatro Comunale the most internationally noted young Italian directors – transposes di Bologna the action to the 1960s, where an Algerian “Bey” and his court seem Chorus Master Andrea Faidutti to be living in a psychedelic wonderland of miniskirts and lava lamps, Stage Director Davide Livermore film excerpts and comic strip exclamations, revue-style sequined costumes, and delirious, Arabian Nights-style twirling, spinning colors that capture the viewer’s ears and eyes. Elvira Mariangela Sicilia Zulma Raffaella Lupinacci The plot – which was inspired by a real misadventure that happened to Haly Davide Luciano an Italian woman in 1808 – relates the story of Bey Mustafa, who is Lindoro Yijie Shi bored with his wife Elvira and thinks that his needs can only be satisfied Isabella Anna Goryachova by an Italian woman. Into his palace steps the fearless Isabella, who has Taddeo Mario Cassi come to free her lover Lindoro, now a slave at the Bey’s court.

Produced by Metisfilm Classica The lead role of Isabella is highly demanding, and Anna Goryachova is Video Director Tiziano Mancini “an ideal performer, both as a singer and actor” (Online Musik Magazin) The daily Il Resto del Carlino gushes: “How beautiful she is, this Length: approx. 150' Italian! Anna Goryachova is a splendid Isabella”. Her Mustafa is Alex Shot in HDTV 1080/50i Esposito, who boasts “a robust and authoritative voice of supreme Cat. no. A00050012 quality” (Operaclick).
