Doctor Who ratings slide by staff writers

Doctor Who, repeats ratings vanish from official reporting. Ratings for weekday Doctor Who repeats on ABC2 have plunged below the top 20 Chameleon Factor # 80 digital only threshold, reporting above this on average once a fortnight. Torchwood repeats have not been reported during the current run. ABC has given Doctor Who O Ou average rating for 2011 as 856,000, the variable threshold indicates it is less than ut So 200,000 this year. However this does reflect series one to six episodes which have oo n! been repeated as many as seven times since 2005. !

The series seven premiere, Asylum of the will screen at the British Film Institute on 14 August, then at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival a week later, and then presumably on the BBC following this. A BBC spokesperson said “Neither date is confirmed, so I've got no further information or comment there I'm afraid. It's not unusual for the UK to run a press screening in advance of the UK transmission but that has no bearing on transmission date. BBC will announce the UK date once it is confirmed, as will the ABC.”

The ABC’s iView site gives the premiere date for Asylum of as “September”, and a spokesperson commented “The new series was pencilled for SFSA magazine # 30 September sometime, but that would be an ABC1 premiere. There is no other news.” . q Continued Page 2 Stolen history, page 2. Archive, page 3. Doctor Who ratings slide q from Page 1

Doctor Who repeats are scheduled on ABC2 at 19.30 weekdays, continuing to early September. This seems to coincide with the projected date for the new episodes on ABC, and matches the premiere of the second set of episodes (five episodes from Let’s Kill Hitler and on) in 2011. This time the balance is reversed with five episodes forming the first set, then a Christmas episode, with seven more episodes held over for 2013, the 50th anniversary. Celebrations are already building for the anniversary, with conventions and events planned and promoted. It is not known what plans has for the show, but at the same time production has relocated into the new studios in Cardiff. ’ Wizards vs Aliens is also produced there, effectively replacing The Sarah Jane Adventures.
