What is an ? Mass Intentions A. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defi nes anaphora as “the Eucharistic Prayer – the prayer of thanksgiving and Sat 6/20 FATHER'S DAY – which is the heart and 5:30 p.m. + Especially all the names placed on the summit of the celebration of the Mass”. Sun 6/21 FATHER'S DAY The word comes from the Greek, ànaphorá, offering, 9:15 a.m. sacrifi ce. The term for the Eucharistic prayer is mainly used + Especially all the names placed on the altar by the Eastern Churches. The anaphora is what the Roman Sun 6/21 + Sri Sriskandaraja & Mary Margaret - 3 year anniversary Church calls the . When the Liturgy of 11:15 a.m. RIP by the Sriskandaraja Family the Word has been completed, and the moves to the Eucharistic service, the entire series of prayers, sacramental + Especially all the names placed on the altar gestures and celebration is called an anaphora. Tues 6/23 + Special Intentions by St. Jude Parishioners The anaphoras are numerous while in the Roman (Latin) 6 p.m. Rite the Canon of the Mass is quite invariable. I once read that there are about 72 different anaphoras used by the Fri 6/26 + Peace in our Country and in the World various Eastern Churchs. The anaphoras are very ancient 12:15 p.m. by St. Jude Parishioners with many of them having their roots in the Apostolic age (time of the Apostles). It is believed that the Anaphora St. Sat 6/27 + Janet Chlastawa RIP by the Chlastawa family + James, First of Jerusalem (AD +61) is the earliest 5:30 p.m. composition among all anaphoras. Sun 6/28 + Good Health for the Landis Family by John & The Anaphora is the central prayer of thanksgiving of the 9:15 a.m. Liturgy in which the is invoked to accomplish the Gloria Smith + sanctifi cation of the Offerings. The Anaphora is the second Sun 6/28 + For our First Communicants by St. Jude Parish basic part of the worship service (the Service of the Word 11:15 a.m. being the fi rst). While Trinitarian (the Trinity) in structure, the emphasis differs in the East and the West. In the Eastern Divine Liturgies, the pattern of prayers is Father-Son-Spirit while in the West, the pattern is Father-Spirit-Son. 1 Corinthians 2:11-16 The Role of God’s Ministers Among human beings, who knows what pertains to a person except the spirit of the person that is within? Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the things freely given us by God. And we speak about them not with words taught by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms. Now the natural person does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can judge everything but is not subject to judgment by anyone. For “who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Luke 10:21-24 Praise of the Father Praise of God Our Father At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

Pope Francis celebrated this Mass broadcast live from the Casa Santa Marta chapel on Sunday, May 17 praying for trash collectors and reminding us that we are not orphans because we have a Father in heaven.

“Today our prayer is for all those persons who clean hospitals, the streets, who empty dumpsters, who go to each house to remove trash”. This was Pope Francis’s intention for the Mass he celebrated for the Sixth Sunday of in the chapel of Casa Santa Marta. He continued saying, “It’s a work that no one sees, but it is a job that is necessary to survive. May the Lord bless them and help them”.

He then refl ected on the passage (John 14:15-21) and the Second Reading (1 Peter 3:15-18) during his .
