Anaphora of St. James Add THE ANAPHORA OF ST JAMES The Prayer of Peace O LORD and God of all, account us unworthy ones to be worthy of this salvation, that freed from guilt and united in love we may greet one another with a kiss of peace and offer to † Thee glory and thanks and to Thine Only-begotten Son and Thy Living Holy Spirit, One God, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons. Amen. Barekhmar! THE LOVE of † God the Father, the grace of † the Only-begotten Son, and the communion of † the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. And with thy spirit. LIFT up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. LET us give thanks to the Lord. It is meet and right. The Prayer of the Qadisha IT IS truly meet and right to thank the Creator of the world, to worship and to praise Him. He whom the heavens and their hosts praise, corporeal and incorporeal, the sun, the moon, the stars, the earth, the seas and all those firstborn whose names are written in the heavenly Jerusalem; angels and archangels, principalities, powers, thrones, dominions, celestial virtues and cherubim full of eyes, the six-winged seraphim veiling their faces and their feet fly to one another proclaiming His holiness, crying holy! The Qadisha Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Tzevaoth, heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. † Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The Prayer of the Anamnesis † THOU art holy in truth, O King of the worlds and Giver of all holiness. † Holy is Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ † and holy is Thy Holy Spirit, who searches out Thy hidden mysteries. Thou madest humanity from earth and placed them in Paradise and when they had transgressed Thy commandment and fell, Thou didst not abandon them but didst guide them by the prophets, and at the fullness of time didst Thou send even Thine Only-begotten Son into the world, who being incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary did renew Thine image that was impaired in humanity. The Anamnesis WHEN HE, the sinless one, prepared to accept death for us sinners, He took bread into His holy hands and when He had given thanks, He † blessed † and consecrated † and broke it, giving it to His holy apostles, saying: Sabu, akolu, hanau paghri. Take, eat, this is My Body; which is broken for you and for the many, given for the remission of sins and for everlasting life. Amen. LIKEWISE He also took the cup and when He had given thanks, He † blessed † consecrated † and gave it to His holy apostles, saying: Sabu, eshthu meneh kolkhon, hanau demi. Take, drink it all of you, this is My Blood; which is shed for you and for the many, given for the remission of sins and for everlasting life. Amen. The Prayer of Commemoration COMMEMORATING Thy death and resurrection on the third day, Thine ascension into heaven and Thy dread second coming wherein Thou shalt judge in righteousness and pay all according to their deeds, we offer to Thee this bloodless sacrifice begging Thee to deal not with us according to our debts, O Lord, nor according to our iniquities, but according to Thine abundant mercy blot out the sins of Thy servants. For we are Thy people and Thine inheritance and we pray to Thee and through Thee to Thy Father, saying: Kyrie eleison! The Prayer of Thanks for All Things MOREOVER do Thy weak and sinful servants, having received Thy grace, give Thee thanks and praise for all things and by reason of all things, O Lord. We praise Thee, We bless Thee, We worship Thee And we give Thee thanks, O Lord, our God. The Prayer of the Epiclesis HAVE MERCY upon us, O Father, and send forth upon us and upon these offerings Thy Holy Spirit, the Lordly Giver of Life who shares Thy throne and kingdom with Thee and with Thy Son who reigns with Thee, one in essence and co-eternal with Thee, who spoke in Thine old and new testaments; who descended as a dove upon our Lord Jesus Christ in the River Jordan; who descended as tongues of fire upon the apostles in the upper room. Amen. Barekhmar! The Epiclesis HEAR me, O Lord! Hear me, O Lord! Hear me, O Lord, and have mercy! Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison! MAY the Holy Spirit abiding here make this bread the life-giving Body † the redeeming Body † the true Body † of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. AND perfect this chalice into the Blood † of the new covenant, the redeeming Blood † the true Blood † of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. The Prayer for the Communicants MAY these holy Mysteries sanctify us, soul and body in all who partake, to bring to fruit the good deed; to establish Thy church on the rock of faith; to give her the victory at the gates of hell, the victory at the gates of hell. Deliver her, Lord from all heresy and from all scandal so she may offer the glory to Thee and all thanks. And so may it be to † Thee and Thy Son and Thy Living Holy Spirit, One God, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons. Amen. The Diptychs Barekhmar! For the holy churches of God, for our Metropolitan, Mar _____, (for our Bishop, Mar _____,) for all the Orthodox Catholic bishops and for all the clergy and all the faithful, that their prayers may be a stronghold for us, let us pray to the Lord! Kyrie eleison! WE OFFER unto Thee this bloodless sacrifice, O Lord, first on behalf of the holy Zion, the mother of all the churches, and on behalf of Thy holy Church throughout the whole world, that Thou mayest grant to her the gift of Thy Holy Spirit. Remember, O Lord, our Metropolitan, Mar ___, (the Archbishop(s) Mar ___ (and Mar ___), (our bishop Mar ___) and the priests, the deacons and all the orders of Thy Church along with my own feeble self. Remember not the sins of my youth, but make me to live according to Thy mercy. Remember also our kindred: the prisoners, the sick, the infirm, the afflicted, and those who are tormented by evil spirits. Bless the air and the crown of the year, filling all the living with good will. For the founders of this holy house, for those who pray with us here and for those absent from us, let us pray to the Lord! Kyrie eleison! REMEMBER, O Lord, them that stand and pray with us, and do Thou remember also them that have departed from among us and them that wished to offer this sacrifice but could not, and to every one grant what is good. Remember, O Lord, all them we have mentioned and them we have not mentioned and receive their sacrifices into the breadth of Thy heavens. Bestow upon them the joy of Thy salvation and make them worthy of Thy help. Strengthen them with Thy power and arm them with Thy might. For pious rulers and for our civil authorities, let us pray to the Lord! Kyrie eleison! REMEMBER, O Lord, every pious ruler and governor. Aid them with the spiritual armor and subdue all their enemies that we may lead a peaceful life. That He will remember our holy Fathers and Mothers, the Prophets and the Apostles, Saint John the Forerunner and Saint Stephen the martyr and all the righteous with Mary the Virgin Mother of God, let us pray to the Lord! Kyrie eleison! O THOU that hast authority over life and death, remember our holy fathers and mothers, the prophets, apostles, and martyrs; Mary the Virgin Mother of God, St John the Forerunner, and St Stephen the martyr together with all the righteous. Unite us with the multitudes of the firstborn whose names are written in the heavenly Jerusalem. That He will remember all the true teachers who have confirmed us in the true faith, from Saint James of Jerusalem even until this day, let us pray to the Lord! Kyrie eleison! CONFIRM in our souls the doctrines of the enlightened and the doctors who carried Thy holy Name before the nations and before the kings and the children of Israel. Bring to an end the heresies that trouble us, and make us worthy of a blameless stand before Thy dreadful judgment seat. That He will remember all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord! Kyrie eleison! O LORD of spirits and all flesh, remember all them that have departed from us in the true faith. Give rest to their bodies, their souls and their spirits. Deliver them from endless condemnation and make them to rejoice in the place where the light of Thy countenance shines, blotting out their offenses and entering not into judgment with them, for there is none innocent before Thee save Thine Only-begotten Son, through whom we also hope to find mercy and forgiveness of sins for His sake, both for us and for them. Having commemorated all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life unto Christ our God! To thee, O Lord. KEEP us, O Lord, without sin until our end and gather us at the feet of Thine elect. Let our end come when and where and as Thou wilt, but leave us not in shame for our offenses so that Thine honored and blessed Name may be glorified and praised, in this as in all things, together with the † Name of our Lord Jesus Christ and that of Thine all good and Living Holy Spirit, one in essence with Thee, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
