For almost 30 years, Steppenwolf Education has created world class programming that speaks to the teen identity. As artists, we tell stories that bring attention to an immediate need for youth in our community. Our responsibility as storytellers is to connect youth with the resources and information necessary to aect change in their own lives. Immersion Residency The Immersion Residency Program was created to address the need for longer, Professional Program more in depth partnership with our schools and for a rigorous curriculum with Development, Field Steppenwolf for Young Adults productions as the central focus. Modeled after the Trip, Residency Lincoln Center Institute in New York City, Aesthetic Education is a continuous experience with a work of art over time, guided by an inquiry process to nurture appreciative, participatory and reective engagements with the arts.

Pre/Post Residency Our PRE/POST Residency Program is composed of three parts: Preparation (pre- Professional Program show workshop), Experience (the production), and Reection/Interpretation (post- Development, Field show workshop).The Pre-show workshop is intended to raise student Trip, Residency excitement/interest in the play through the use of exercises based on the play’s themes. The Experience of seeing the play is always followed by a post-show discussion. The Post-show workshop engages students in reective dialogue about the show.

Step In Step In is a new series that oers teens from all over the city the chance to Out-of-School and/or participate in hands-on theatre workshops alongside some of the most exciting Summer theatre artists working in the city right now. Events are hosted by the Steppenwolf Young Adult Council, an afterschool program for teens interested in careers in the arts. Admission is free with a student ID.

Student Matinee Steppenwolf for Young Adults oers opportunities for students to attend daytime Field Trip Program student matinees at the theater. Each performance is followed by a post show discussion with artists associated with the show. The 2015/16 season features two plays—one classic story, one cutting-edge experience. The season begins with George Orwell’s 1984, and is followed by another forward-thinking creation—a world premiere interactive experience that explores the intersection of technology and decision-making—The Compass.

What If? As a part of our What If? extended in school residency program, students who Field Trip, Resources, attend a student matinee production will curate and perform their own artistic Performance / response using the question, “What If?” as a guiding prompt. At the culmination of Workshop, Residency the residency, students will present their nal artistic project in the school’s auditorium, performing for not only their classmates but members of the community as well.

Young Adult Council SYA's Young Adult Council (YAC) is an after-school program for high school students Resources, Field Trip, that evolved organically from the theater’s interest in fostering youth development. Out-of-School and/or It is an arts leadership program by design, with teens taking on a leading role in Summer steering the conversation around our youth-focused programming internally, as well as within the broader community of SYA participants. The Council is a yearlong intensive for high school students to learn about the inner workings of professional theaters.
