Dear Sirs,
Planning Application 14/08778/FUL
Proposed Wind Turbine
I am writing to object strongly to the above planning application for a wind turbine at Thoulstone Farm, near Chapmanslade.
There are compelling economic arguments against such a turbine which may or may not be relevant for planning purposes. There is no longer any requirement for additional wind turbines to enable the UK to meet its 2020 targets for renewable energy. Wind turbines generally are an inefficient source of renewable energy and this one is likely to be particularly so because of the low wind levels in the vale where it is proposed it should be sited. Consequently it would have to be backed up by energy from traditional fossil fuel generators. Additionally, with the use of tons of concrete for its foundations it is likely to make a minute or negative contribution to reduction of CO2 emissions.
My main objection on planning grounds is that the proposed turbine would be totally inappropriate in its agricultural setting and in full view of Cley Hill, a scheduled ancient monument and part of an Area of National Beauty. This would not only apply to views from Cley Hill but the view of Cley Hill, particularly from the A36 and the A3098. There are also likely to be much more severe problems with noise for local residents than the developers are suggesting, particularly amplitude modulation and infrasound.
I therefore hope that you will reject this misplaced planning application.
Yours faithfully
Penelope Milburn
