    Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the differences between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas This document should be read in conjunction with the School Places Strategy 2017 – 2022 and provides an explanation of the differences between the Wiltshire Community Areas served by the Area Boards and the School Planning Areas. The Strategy is primarily a school place planning tool which, by necessity, is written from the perspective of the School Planning Areas. A School Planning Area (SPA) is defined as the area(s) served by a Secondary School and therefore includes all primary schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into that secondary school. As these areas can differ from the community areas, this addendum is a reference tool to aid interested parties from the Community Area/Area Board to define which SPA includes the schools covered by their Community Area. It is therefore written from the Community Area standpoint. Amesbury The Amesbury Community Area and Area Board covers Amesbury town and surrounding parishes of Tilshead, Orcheston, Shrewton, Figheldean, Netheravon, Enford, Durrington (including Larkhill), Milston, Bulford, Cholderton, Wilsford & Lake, The Woodfords and Great Durnford. It encompasses the secondary schools The Stonehenge School in Amesbury and Avon Valley College in Durrington and includes primary schools which feed into secondary provision in the Community Areas of Durrington, Lavington and Salisbury. However, the School Planning Area (SPA) is based on the area(s) served by the Secondary Schools and covers schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into either The Stonehenge School in Amesbury or Avon Valley College in Durrington.

    Knook THE WILTSHIRE SOCIETY The fiftieth anniversary of the Wiltshire Society was held on Friday evening last, at the Albion Hotel, Aldersgate-street, London, under the presidency of Richard Penruddocke Long, esq., M.P. The company was much smaller than of late years, but was very select, and amongst those present were the Marquis of Bath, Sir Thomas Bateson, M.P., Lord Charles Bruce, M.P., Mr Thomas Fraser Grove, M.P., William Blackmore, esq., John Hibbert Brewer, esq., H. A. Mereweather, esq., Q.C., D. Archer, esq., James Bradford, esq., &c., &c. The musical arrangements for the evening were well carried out by Messrs Wynn, Young, and Carter, under the superintendence of Mr Cummins. The cloth having been removed, Non nobis Domine was sung, after which the usual loyal toasts were drunk. The Chairman said he must not ask them to do honour to “The Bishop and Clergy of the Diocese.” He need not say to any of them who had the honour of being acquainted with the Bishop of Salisbury, and of knowing his kind-hearted character, that they all looked upon him as being the right man in the right place (applause). He was sorry that there was no clergyman present to respond to the toast, but that was, perhaps, a strong reason why they should convey to the clergy of the diocese their heartfelt appreciation in which they discharges their duties (cheers). ………. Atkins are working on behalf of Wiltshire Council on a scheme to replace a dilapidated section of the bridge’s arch, and we are seeking comments from local stakeholders. The photographs below show views of the existing bridge looking a) north east along the carriageway and b) at the profile of the arch from underneath the bridge. The exact location of the structure is shown in plan on the enclosed drawing ‘WHCC_BS-ATK-VTO-TO2089_S01-DR-S-0002’. Photographs: View of Donhead St Mary Bridge looking a) north east and b) at the arch profile 1 Subsequent to its initial construction, the arch has been extended with brickwork on the south east (downstream) side in order to widen the road. It is this extension section of the bridge that is in poor structural condition and in need of repair. As such, Wiltshire Council have decided to replace the brick arch extension and rebuild the parapets from the salvaged stone. The opportunity will also be taken to strengthen the whole structure by saddling the arch in concrete before resurfacing the carriageway.
