It signals the end of our work. It is a way to finish the day with the Lord, in prayer. ● We are not simply reading these words; we are using these words to come before God and to open our hearts to Him. Therefore, let the words resonate while praying this Evening Compline:

Leader: At the day’s end, we come to rest.

All: Lord, we receive your rest.

Leader: We reflect on this day, its joys and pains. We take a moment to pause and be still, remembering how you have kept us this day. We acknowledge the disappointments, we celebrate the blessings. We thank you for guiding us through it all.

(A time is taken to offer short, 1-2 sentence prayers of thanksgiving. These prayers may be said out loud (while un-muted) or typed out & shared in the chat feature. Please remember to mute yourself after praying out loud.)

Reader: (Matthew 11:28-30) Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Leader: Come O children, into the Father’s embrace. He has compassion on your waste places. And he gives back the vineyards that were stolen; all that was lost, he will restore.

All: Lord, we receive your comfort.

Leader: Come all you hungry, come to the table. Come dine and eat, and be satisfied; learn the secret of dependence, where there is always enough.

All: Lord, we receive your provision.

Leader: Come all you lonely, come into family. For you will no longer be called forsaken but beloved and known in the family of God

All: Lord, we receive your love.

Leader: Come all you sick and afflicted. Lift up your eyes; see Christ shining on you. See and be healed.

All: Lord, we receive your healing.

Leader: Come all you weary into the rest of Christ Lay down your burdens In exchange for the peace of Christ

All: Lord, we receive your rest.

Reader: (Psalm 131 A song of ascents. Of .)

My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty;

I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.

But I have calmed and quieted myself,  I am like a weaned child with its mother;

like a weaned child I am content.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord, both now and forevermore.

All: We calm and quiet our soul in your embrace. We bring all worries and concerns into your keeping care. We commit our neighbours, family, and all we love to you. We lay down our overthinking, and receive your rest.

You have kept us through the desert, in a dry and weary land you have sustained us. We remember your goodness to us, all your ways are faithful and true.

Benediction:

Leader: Be still, and know, Christ is the Lord. May you rest in the keeping care of your Shepherd. May you calm and quiet your soul, and be comforted by the Father’s love. May the Spirit lead you into hope and peace as you rest this night.

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
