  • Capitol Corridor Service Performance
    CAPITOL CORRIDOR SERVICE PERFORMANCE In July 2016, the Capitol Corridor had one of its best months in the history of the service. Ridership was the highest ever, with a total of 128,655 passengers, a 1.7% year‐over‐year (YOY) increase. Revenue was up 4.6% compared to July 2015. Compared to June 2016, On‐ Time Performance (OTP) slipped slightly from 96% to 95%, yet was still above the FY16 standard of 90%. The Year‐To‐Date (YTD) results continue to be in positive territory. Compared to FY15, FYTD16 ridership and revenue are up 5.5%, with the System Operating Ratio at 55%, five percentage points above the 50% standard. YTD OTP is 94%, which keeps the Capitol Corridor in the #1 spot for service reliability in the national Amtrak intercity passenger rail network. The FYTD16 customer satisfaction scores (through June 2016) are at 89% “Highly Satisfied”, one point above the FY16 standard of 88%. The following are ridership highlights for July 2016: Average weekend ridership for July was down 7% versus July 2015. To address these continued decreases in weekend ridership, the CCJPA is modifying the weekend/holiday train schedule effective August 22, 2016, to slot trains at times that align with typical weekend travel patterns. Average July weekday ridership yielded a 9% increase thanks to continued growth on the trains serving San Jose/Silicon Valley and Placer County stations. Amtrak has sent detailed performance results (see attached) for June 2016 and provided below is a summary of the attached tables: OTP: June 2016 system end‐point OTP was a stellar 96% compared to 93% for May 2016.

  • Union Depot Tower Interlocking Plant
    Union Depot Tower Union Depot Tower (U.D. Tower) was completed in 1914 as part of a municipal project to improve rail transportation through Joliet, which included track elevation of all four railroad lines that went through downtown Joliet and the construction of a new passenger station to consolidate the four existing passenger stations into one. A result of this overall project was the above-grade intersection of 4 north-south lines with 4 east-west lines. The crossing of these rail lines required sixteen track diamonds. A diamond is a fixed intersection between two tracks. The purpose of UD Tower was to ensure and coordinate the safe and timely movement of trains through this critical intersection of east-west and north-south rail travel. UD Tower housed the mechanisms for controlling the various rail switches at the intersection, also known as an interlocking plant. Interlocking Plant Interlocking plants consisted of the signaling appliances and tracks at the intersections of major rail lines that required a method of control to prevent collisions and provide for the efficient movement of trains. Most interlocking plants had elevated structures that housed mechanisms for controlling the various rail switches at the intersection. Union Depot Tower is such an elevated structure.     Hello. I’m Will Kempton, Chief Executive Officer of the Orange County Transportation Authority. I am pleased and honored to share the 2009 OCTA Annual Report with you. In an effort to reduce paper costs and "go green," this year’s annual report has moved to an online format. We think you’ll enjoy its interactivity. As you are aware, 2009 was a challenging year for transportation funding. We faced obstacles that we never had before, and hopefully, never will again. In spite of these obstacles, OCTA made great strides improving our transportation network. Due to our efforts in 2009, the I-5 Gateway Project through Buena Park is nearing completion. As a shovel-ready project, the SR-91 Eastbound Lane Addition Project received federal stimulus dollars in the spring of last year under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act...and we broke ground in November. Our 34 cities and the county received a total of $78 million for local street and road improvements to reduce your commute time. As part of the Metrolink Service Expansion Program, design for track and infrastructure improvements was completed. We also finished final design for grade crossing safety enhancements, and construction began on projects in the cities of Orange and Anaheim. Conceptual design and environmental clearance are under way for ARTIC, Orange County’s premier transportation hub. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011. With the loss of State Transit Assistance funding and declining sales tax revenues, it was an extremely challenging year for our bus system. In June, the OCTA Board of Directors declared a fiscal emergency resulting in significant bus service reductions that affected our customers and employees.

    Service Alerts – Digital Displays TriMet has digital displays at most MAX Light Rail stations to provide real-time arrival information as well as service disruption/delay messaging. Some of the displays are flat screens as shown to the right. Others are reader boards. Due to space, the messages need to be as condensed as possible. While we regularly post the same alert at stations along a line, during the Rose Quarter MAX Improvements we provided more specific alerts by geographical locations and even individual stations. This was because the service plan, while best for the majority of riders, was complex and posed communications challenges. MAX Blue Line only displays MAX Blue Line disrupted and frequency reduced.
