National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior Cape Hatteras National Seashore Environmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect ___ Review and Adjustment of Wildlife Protection Buffers April 2015 1 Department of the Interior National Park Service Environmental Assessment: Review and Adjustment of Wildlife Protection Buffers Cape Hatteras National Seashore North Carolina April 2015 Summary The National Park Service (NPS) proposes to modify wildlife protection buffers established under the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Final Off-Road Vehicle Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement of 2010 (ORV FEIS). This proposed action results from a review of the buffers, as mandated by Section 3057 of the Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2015, Public Law 113-291 (2014 Act). The 2014 Act directs the NPS “to ensure that the buffers are of the shortest duration and cover the smallest area necessary to protect a species, as determined in accordance with peer-reviewed scientific data.” This environmental assessment (EA) deals solely with review and modification, as appropriate, of wildlife protection buffers and the designation of pedestrian and vehicle corridors around buffers. All other aspects of the ORV FEIS remain unchanged. This EA analyzes potential impacts to the human environment resulting from two alternative courses of action. These alternatives are: alternative A (no action, i.e., continue current management under the ORV FEIS), and alternative B (modify buffers and provide additional access corridors) (the NPS preferred alternative). As more fully described in the EA, the proposed modifications to buffers and corridors in alternative B are as follows: For American oystercatcher: There would be an ORV corridor at the waterline during nesting, but only when (a) no alternate route is available, and (b) the nest is at least 25 meters from the vehicle corridor. -

The project will create a 24 mile segment of track between New Brunswick and Trenton, NJ capable of 160 mph train operations with high‐tension catenary, upgraded electric Amtrak ARRA Corridor Program NEC Power, Signal, Track, Catenary Improvements power facilities, and high‐speed rail interlockings that allow express trains to overtake and pass local trains, reducing delays that often affect this track $ 449,944,000 section. In addition, this project makes related track and interlocking investments between Trenton, NJ and Morrisville, PA and at New York Penn Station. The upgraded power facilities will reduce power failures, which are frequently experienced on this segment of the NEC. California ‐ Total Funding Amount: $4,243,143,231 This project encompasses the purchase of 15 passenger rail cars and 4 locomotives for use on the Pacific Surfliner, San Joaquin, and Capitol Corridors in California. These new cars and locomotives will be compliant with standards for equipment that can travel at speeds up to 125 mph established Next Generation Passenger Rail Equipment CA ‐ DOT ARRA Corridor Program pursuant to Section 305 of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008. -

The first Amtrak Phases started to emerge around 1972, shortly after Amtrak's formation. It critically engages with the “South African Surfing History Archive”, collected in the course of research, by focusing on two inter-related themes in contributing to a critical sports historiography in southern Africa. The first is how surfing in South Africa has come to be considered a white, male sport. The second is whether surfing is political. In addressing these topics the study considers the double whiteness of the Californian influences that shaped local surfing culture at “whites only” beaches during apartheid. The racialised nature of the sport can be found in the emergence of an amateur national surfing association in the mid-1960s and consolidated during the professionalisation of the sport in the mid-1970s. -

2017 San Diego County Fair – June 2nd through July 4th, 2017 The San Diego County Fair is the 5th largest Fair in North America, the largest County Fair in U.S. and the largest Fair in California! Aside from minor interruptions, the Fair has been held annually since 1880. Marketers have a chance to interact with over 1.6 million people in a relaxed, non-timed and fun environment. Here is a great chance to enter into an advertising avenue un-crowded and un-cluttered. It is the largest and oldest annual event in San Diego. The 22nd District Agricultural Association, an agency of the State of California, sponsors it. No other San Diego County event comes close to matching the attendance of the fair in a three-week period. Attendance for the 2016 San Diego Fair reached the best mark on record - 1,609,481 people! This was over 61,000 per day. 2017 San Diego County Fair Facts: Dates: The 2017 San Diego County Fair will open for a sneak peak on Friday afternoon June 2nd and close July 4th. The Fair will be closed on Mondays (except July 3rd) and the first two Tuesdays. This gives the Fair a run of 26 days. Hours: The Fair opens daily at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Fair closes at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Fun Zone stays opens approximately to midnight each night. Admission: Fair admission is $17.00 for adults, $10.00 for ages 62 and older, and children 6 to 12. -
