Job Description-Equipment Operator

Nature of Work:

This is full-time semi-skilled manual work in the operation of front-end loaders, , bulldozers, trucks and and other related motorized equipment. Employee of this class is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of loaders, graders, bulldozers, backhoes and trucks for a major portion of the work time. Duties may include the performance of manual labor tasks in connection with operation of the equipment and other functions of the Public Works Department. Work instructions may be received in detail for each job to be performed or may follow an established routine. Work is subject to review while in progress and upon completion by the Public Works Director or Highway Foreman.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs varied work assignments using a front-end , , bulldozer, or truck, and related motorized equipment.

Assists in the seasonal plowing and sanding of Town streets, , parking lots and sidewalks.

Assists in the and maintenance of streets, roads, parking lots and sidewalks and the installation and maintenance of sewer lines and services.

Assists in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicle equipment at the Town Garage.

Assists in general related activities of the Public Works Department, including but not limited to brush and tree cutting, chipping and removal, pavement patching, equipment maintenance and general clean-up.

Operates equipment in the construction and maintenance of roads, street, sidewalks, parking lots, town facilities and infrastructure as needed.

Assists in the construction or maintenance of town owned facilities and infrastructure.

Assists with the compaction of materials stored in containers at the Bucksport Transfer Station.

Performs related work as required.

Requirements of work:

Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, equipment and tools of the construction trade.

Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Knowledge of the geography of the town, including the location of streets.

Ability to operate trucks, front end loader, bulldozer, grader, backhoes and other motorized equipment safely and according to traffic laws and regulations.

Ability to make and assist in minor repairs and maintenance of motorized equipment.

Ability to perform labor for extended periods of time under adverse climatic conditions.

Ability to works weekends, evenings and holidays.

Ability to carry out general instructions independently and follow more detailed instruction with some guidance.

Compile with the Town’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Work in harmony and in spirit of cooperation with coworkers and supervisors.

Functional Requirements: Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work of the class including: lifting up to 100 pounds, standing, walking and sitting for prolonged periods, bending, climbing on top of sanders and into equipment and crawling under equipment to do routine maintenance.

Live within eight (8) miles by road from the Bucksport Town Garage.

Necessary Requirements: Must possess valid Class B CDL
