The International Congress on Combustion and Fire Dynamics will take place in Santander between 20-23rd October, 2010.

The aim of the Congress is to bring together international experts in the "elds of Combustion and Fire Dynamics , to present the results of their research and practical works. The Congress is also aimed at senior students in di#erent Engineering and Science disciplines.

GIDAI Group at the is hosting and organizing the Congress, in collaboration with other international Universities and Research Centers. GIDAI has been working in the "elds of Fire Science and Technology for more than 15 years, and has developed a number of di#erent R+D Projects in these areas.

This event is organized with the support of the most important international organizations related to Fire Safety, such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the International Association for Fire Safety and Science (IAFSS), and the Spanish Section of the Combustion Institute.

OBJETIVES

The International Congress on Combustion and Fire Dynamics has the following objectives:

To present the most signi"cant advancements of research in the "eld of Combustion and its interaction with Fire Dynamics .

To provide a forum for knowledge transfer in the "eld of Combustion and Fire Dynamics disciplines among scientists and researchers.

To highlight the relevance and to present the state-of-the-art in studies of Combustion and Fire Dynamics .

To introduce the use of Computer Models, Virtual Reality models and Advanced High-Performance Visualization techniques.

Prof. Dr. James G. Quintiere

Professor Quintiere began his carreer as a mechanical engineer and received a B.S. degree in science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1962. He obtained a Master of Science in 1966 and his PhD in 1970, both from the University of New York. His career in Fire Safety began a year later when he joined the National Bureau of Standards which later became The National Institute Science and Technology (NIST). He "nished his activities at NIST in 1989 and began as Chief of the Division of Fire Science and Engineering to join the faculty of the Department at the University of Maryland. Dr. Quintiere’s research in "re has covered a wide range of topics including compartment "re behavior, "re induced *ows, "re growth on materials and scale mo- del studies. He has written over 75 journal publications and reports. He also is author of international referenced books as the titled “Fundamentals of Fire Phenomena”.

“BASIC CONCEPTS IN THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFUSION CONTROLLED COMBUSTION” Prof. Dr. Amable Liñán Martínez Polytechnical University of Madrid (Spain)

Prof. Dr. Amable Liñán

Prof. Liñán received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic Universi- ty of Madrid and Aeronautical Engineering from the California Institute of Technolo- gy. He is currently Professor of Fluid Mechanics and professor emeritus at the School of Aeronautical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He has worked in the University of California, Michigan and Princeton in the , and in the University of Marseilles in France, among others. He is an adjunct professor at Yale University since 1997. He has focused his research studies on the basic problems of combustion, both reactors and dynamics of planetary probes, latter, he worked directly for NASA and the European Space Agency. In 1989 he was elected to the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain, France and Mexico. He is author of several referen- ce science books and Scienti"c papers and was honored in 1993 with the Prince of Asturias Prize for Scienti"c and Technical Research. In 2007, he received the Research Award “Miguel Catalán” of the .
