The HVV transport plan for the G20 summit

The operators in the HVV have made intensive preparations for the G20 summit in Hamburg at the beginning of July including close consultations with all those involved. The result is a transport plan which will ensure mobility within the city for all citizens of Hamburg on the days the summit is being held too. To this end, the transport operators have agreed on a set of measures which will apply from 12 midday on Thursday 6 July to 8pm on Saturday 8 July. During this period passengers must reckon with traffic disruptions from time to time in the inner city. The reason for this is the temporary road closures necessary to facilitate the transport of state guests to and from the airport, their hotels and the summit venues. In addition there will be announced and already notified demonstrations. The public transport operators in the HVV recommend all citizens of Hamburg as well as visitors to the city to leave their cars at home wherever possible during these three days.

Rapid transit trains The current plan envisages the continuation of regular services by the U- and S-Bahn trains as the mainstay of public . Individual entrances to and exits from platforms may however be closed for a short time at certain stations (U Messehallen, S ). On the S1 line there will be additional trains to and from the airport at night. The U-Bahn will also run additional trains. The U-Bahn services in the night from Thursday to Friday will run for a longer period.

Bus services All bus lines will also continue in principle to run. Due to the overall traffic situation, especially in the inner city, this may however be subject to considerable delays from time to time. For this reason passengers who normally use the bus are recommended to change to the U- and S-Bahn services.

In order to guarantee as stable and reliable bus services as possible across the entire Hamburg city area during the G20 summit days, the public transport operators in the HVV have agreed on a plan. The goal of this is to get all passengers to their destination with as few problems as possible. For this purpose changing to the U- and S-Bahn trains will be simplified:

In the inner city (Ring 1), Hamburg has a very closely meshing network. For this reason the buses which normally run into the city centre will usually end at the rapid transit stations on the perimeter of Ring 1. Passengers have the option of changing to the U- and S-Bahn services here quickly and without hassle. In addition there will be shuttle buses in the city centre running on the routes regularly served by bus lines. These will run – traffic conditions permitting – at 10 minute intervals.

This will allow the buses outside Ring 1 to run independently of what traffic conditions may be in the Hamburg city centre, thus ensuring that services there are as stable and reliable as possible. This will also allow the transport operators to react more flexibly to any disruptions which may occur at short notice and to limit any adverse effects connected with them to certain sections of the routes. The advantage: temporary traffic congestion in the city centre will not be passed on to the other route sections.

• Example MetroBus line 4: The U-Bahn station Schlump is the central transfer hub here for changing to the and travelling in all directions. The No. 4 will end here coming from and then return there.

• Example MetroBus line 5: The first transfer point (for passengers coming from Burgwedel) is Niendorf Markt. Buses will turn around here and run back to Burgwedel. Passengers have the option here to Seite 2 von 4

change to the U2 or change to another bus and continue on bus route 5 into the city centre. The second transfer point is U-Bahn station Hoheluftbrücke (U3). From here, services will return to Niendorf Markt. Wherever possible, however, the bus will run further as far as Bezirksamt Eimsbüttel so that passengers can reach this area.

The bus lines affected together with their transfer points are listed in detail in the attachment to this press release so that citizens of Hamburg can plan their journeys during the summit days as optimally as possible. You can also find bus routes there which do not actually travel into the city centre, but which have transfer points along them, since temporary disruptions must be reckoned with. Passengers can change to another bus line here and continue their journey. These measures are intended to maintain stable and reliable services as far as possible.

Alongside the bus lines listed, temporary disruptions and in some cases cancellations must be reckoned with in particular on bus lines which run near the transfer corridor for summit guests due to closures and traffic congestion. In order to maintain stable and reliable services, the route may be altered on a few services and buses may run at different intervals.

The night buses are not affected by the planned restrictions. These will run according to the normal timetable.

HADAG harbour ferries According to current plans, only the ferry line 72 will be affected. This will not run on Friday 7 July as from 11am due to the closure of access to the .

Regional trains to and from Schleswig-Holstein DB trains coming from and (RE7/ RE70) will start and end from 9pm on 6 July till 9pm on 8 July 21 in Altona. AKN trains (A1) will start and end during the summit in Eidelstedt, DB and Nordbahn trains in Altona. This will apply in the case of the AKN (A1) from 3 July, for Nordbahn trains (RB61) from start of services on 6 July till start of services on 9 July.

Additional personnel and information sources During the summit days, the public transport operators in the HVV will be deploying additional personnel so that they can react as needed quickly and reorganize services wherever necessary. Besides the operational aspects the operators will keep passengers informed as closely as possible of planned services and any changes which may become necessary (also at short notice).

The changes to the timetable will be posted and available for download as of 28 June 2017 via the HVV App and online. Information on the current traffic situation for bus and rapid transit services can be obtained on the HVV Hotline (19449), at hvv.de or via the Twitter and Facebook platforms of the transport operators, the public authorities and the police.
