17 18 WEST SPRINGFIELD PARK & RECREATION DEPARTMENT Presents the 56 Annual Series of FREE Family Concerts CONCERT 4 – Gary Landgren Honky Tonk Piano Friday, June 7, 2019 – 7:00 – 8:30 PM West Springfield High School Auditorium 425 Piper Road, West Springfield, MA 01089

Gary Landgren of Worcester returns to present another fun evening of honky-tonk piano music from yester-year.

This rip-roaring and happy style of piano was born out of and JAZZ from the 1890’s thru the 1920’s. The sound can be compared to that of a rollicking player piano or those gigantic coin-operated nickelodeons often seen in parlors along the boardwalk back in the day.

Audiences tap their toes, clap and sing-along to memorable songs such as “Ain’t She Sweet”, “When You’re Smiling”, “It Had To Be You”, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”, “Beer Barrel Polka”, “12th Street Rag”, “Yes Sir, that’s My Baby”...and many more.

Gary’s interest in this music began as a teenager. “I had been experimenting with chords and my own ragtimey ditties on the family spinet and took some informal lessons at a local piano store for about a year and a half- that’s it”. From this, Gary went his own way and adopted many tricks on the keys so that his playing would sound like the old piano rolls. It’s good-time music that lights up the hearts and faces of people from 1 to 101 years of age. Lively, make-you-smile nostalgia from the “good old days”.

Gary is always happy to entertain anywhere there’s a piano and a crowd that wants to have a fun time.

By the age of 6, she was introduced to fiddle music & began competing in fiddle contests all over New England. Her grandparents suggested having a signature look....so she was known as the girl with the little red hat. Eventually it was her playing that was being recognized as she won hundreds of competitions.

These contests & festivals instilled Sarah’s for old- time music as she learned & played along side some of the best old-tymers. Even her fiddle was given to her by New England fiddler Willie “Uncle Willie” Lapman & carries a history of over 200 years of song.

The moment her bow touches the strings, Sarah's passion for music is evident. Combining her influences of Old- Time, Irish, World & Classical music, Sarah takes her audiences on a musical journey from old-time sing- alongs, to lively polkas & rousing reels.

Sarah currently performs with her husband Keith DaSilva on drums & Joe Dziok on piano & accordion. The influences of these three musicians makes for a high energy show loved by audiences of all ages.
