5 By Carolyn Beshara Sunday, March 31st marked not one, but two firsts for the Space City Ski Club ... it was the day of the very successful bicycle trip, and it was the first time a Trip Chairman GOT LOST!

All seemed great as we all gathered at Dozier's in Fulshear for the maiden voyage. Off we went with yours truly leading the way. A few brave (and nervy) souls passed me to take the long route (21 miles). Six miles later I was waiting for the gang at the "shortcut", only to realize after 10 minutes that no one was coming. Worried? Oh, no, I remembered in that group was Jerry Kearby, and he surely led my flock astray and down the path of less pedaling (15 miles). I took my "shortcut" along (total of 19½ miles) and met the long-route cyclists, Louise and Willi Buhl, Jim McIntyre and John Thayer. After some wine (thanks to Jim McIntyre) and fun picture taking, we were on our way to Simonton, with a head• wind so strong there were whitecaps on the farm ponds we were slowly passing. Some six miles later, there they were - the Jerry Kearby follow• ers - all taking .a breather and smiling (or was that snickering) at our arrival. After a short rest, we all left for the four-mile trip back to Dozier's.

The final stop at Dozier's was great - lots of beer, bar-b-que, laughs, stories, camaraderie, and tired people. All in all, it proved to be a smashing success, so much so that a second trip is being planned for May.

Oh, special thanks to Finn Runfalo for driving the sagwagon, without whose help a few SCSC members might still be cranking their way back to Dozier's!! !

The Space City Ski Club's un- official talent contest was another winner. Bob Petner (SCSC's own Burt Parks) acted as Master of Cermonies for the contest. He welcomed such talent as Diane Matthews who recited poetry on a pogo stick; Adrianne Lewis, our singer who got pregnant for the evening; Karen Steiner and partner, Mortimer Snerd, did a ventriloquist act; Evie Monroe, the New York pickpocket; Lois Sage, a fantastic speedreader; Halene Crossman painted a portrait with fruit (real fruit!); Trilby Wood showed us her musical abilities play- ing the lamp; Marjean Doucette taught us all how to figure the weather; and finally Helen Snyder read an eye chart.

After the award roses were snatched at the critical moment by a Surprise!!! STREAKER (An SCSC First- Any guesses as to who it was?), each con• testant was awarded a rose for her efforts and contribution of good hum• or to the success of the 1974 Follies.

Behind the scenes, the show could not have gone on without the help of: Jim Plummer, Applause Indicator; Ron Crossman, Prop Man; Harry Beard, Sound Man; Mark Therrell, Photographer; Jerry Kearby, Lights and Organization; Frank Riesenberg, led the singing of Edelweiss accom• panied by Jay Castille on the piano, and Virginia Blalock, All-around Assistant.

All of the faces in the show were firsts for the Follies. The friendships and cameraderie that were established in doing something together will long be remembered. I think everyone found that it's really true .. the more you get involved in SCSC, the more you get out of it. (Expecially when the activity is as zany as the Follies.) Who knows, we may have enjoyed doing the show for you as much as you may have enjoyed watching it!

Thank you for your applause and in• dulgence. Next year, we'll look for you on stage making us laugh!
