Notes and supplementary information: - Divide: The kingdom was divided after King Solomon's death, when his son Rehoboam announced that he would place an even heavier burden on the people than his father did. The northern tribes then rebelled, and proclaimed Jeroboam as their king. The southern part of the kingdom - called Judah - consisted of two tribes (Judah and Benjamin), while the northern - called Israel - consisted of ten tribes (Reuben, Simeon, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Ephraim and Manasseh). - Israel: All the kings of Israel did "evil in the eyes of the Lord". The placement above and below the timeline is done in alternate sets to indicate succession and dynasties. They are divided into five dynasties (1-5), as well as five individual rulers (x). Dynasties: 1:Jeroboam-Nadab | 2:Baasha-Elah | x:Zimri* | x:Tibni* | 3:Omri-Ahab-Ahaziah-Jehoram (brother) | 4:Jehuh-Jehoahaz-Jehoash-Jeroboam II-Zechariah | x:Shallum* | 5:Menahem-Pekahiah | x:Pekah | x:Hoshea The throne was passed from father to son within the dynasties, while the external shifts of power were caused by rebellions/treason where the sitting king was killed. *Zimri: ruled only 7 days | *Tibni: rival to King Omri | *Shallum: ruled only 1 month - Judah: Those of the who did "evil in the eyes of the Lord" are placed below the timeline, while those who did "right in the eyes of the Lord" are placed above. The throne went from father to son, except for the last four kings, where Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim and Zedekiah were brothers, while Jehoiachin was Zedekiah's nephew (and Jehoiakim's son). All but Ataliah* were of 's lineage. *Athaliah: Daughter of King Ahab of Israel, or alt., King Omri. Widow of King Jehoram and mother of King Ahaziah and grandmother of King Joash (who was hidden when Athaliah tried to kill all the heirs to the throne).
