Starting or returning to work after a family phase offers many chances. At the same time, it means great challenges for parents. An important aspect of starting or returning to work is securing good childcare. With this brochure, we would like to support you in your search for suitable childcare. We in the district of Groß-Gerau want to ensure that you can have both – good childcare and a successful new career. When you can be sure that your child is reliably looked after, facing the professional challenge will be easier for you. We want to support you with this brochure. It contains all the necessary information so that you can organise the most suitable care for your child. The brochure covers the following topics: • What do you need to clarify for yourself? • What kinds of childcare are there, and how can they be accessed? • What does the legal claim mean? • Who bears the costs? • Who are my contact persons? 1. What are the available childcare options? ? 1.1 Childcare facilities These facilities look after children for part of the day or the whole day. The children are put into appropriate groups for activities. Facilities include nurse- ry schools (for children up to three years of age); kindergartens (for children from the age of three to the start of school); before school and after school programs (for children who are in school); and childcare facilities with children of different ages. 1.2 Daycare – nanny/caregiver Daycare is offered by a suitable nanny/caregiver in their home or at the child‘s home. The children spend a set amount of time during the day in a home en- vironment outside their own home, often together with the nanny/caregiver‘s children and partner. This makes it possible to focus on the individual needs of each child.

Legal entitlement to childcare for children aged 0-6 in the district of Groß-Gerau § Your child has a right to childcare in a childcare facility or in a daycare in ac- cordance with Art. 24 of the German Social Code (SGB) VIII. The registration procedure differs from place to place; registration should take place if possible. The facilities need at least three months lead time. The legal right is met if a reasonable childcare spot has been offered. If you receive multiple acceptance letters, you can decide where you would like to send your child. If you do not accept an available childcare spot, you forgo the legal right and have to register your child all over again.

3. Who covers the costs? € Individuals whose income does not allow them to cover the costs of childcare are entitled to subsidies or to have costs covered by the Youth Welfare Office. After submitting the application and presenting supporting documentation (e. g. proof of net income over the last 12 months, rental contract, expenses for insurances, etc.), the relevant department assesses the applicant‘s econo- mic situation to see if the childcare costs have to be subsidized or fully covered by the Youth Welfare Office. Approval is granted for 12 months; renewal appli- cations have to be submitted before the end of the approval period. You can also apply for coverage of the meal costs at the childcare facility un- der the Program for the Promotion of Education and Inclusion (Bildungs- und Teilhabepaket).
