Andrea Norvice Moore President, Pearl Foundation, Incorporated Sharon Stanley Merriweather President, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Iota Lambda Omega Chapter Colleen Ratliffe & Mia Winkley Co-Chairmen, Pearl Foundation, Incorporated Scholarship Committee Greetings, As we all face this extraordinary time, we extend best wishes to your family and friends for good health and safety. Our goal is to always create an environment where you feel comfortable and can enjoy yourself. The year could not pass without the Pearl Foundation continued support for our graduating high school seniors who reside in Howard County. After much consideration, we decided to cancel the annual scholarship benefit luncheon in-person and virtual events. We hope this 2020 Pearl Foundation Scholars memory book serves as a reminder and token of your outstanding achievements and contributions to the community. We know many of our supporters have been hit hard during these last few months. The needs of our local community have not gone away. The foundation’s membership has done its fair share of community service during COVID-19. We have supported the Howard County Food Bank, Fire & Safety House #9, Columbia Community Cares, Grassroots Homeless Shelter, and the Brightminds Foundation. We will celebrate our 40th Scholarship Benefit Luncheon & Fashion Show: 20 Pearls in a Glamorous World on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Martin’s West. If you are able, please consider a monetary donation this year to help fortify our 2021 Scholarships. You can give directly on our website. If you are unable to support us financially, please visit us on our Social Media platforms and continue to help us spread the word about our foundation’s efforts so we may continue to provide Service to all Mankind. Again, we appreciate your continued support, and please stay well. Fondly, Mrs. Sharon Stanley Merriweather Ms. Andrea Norvice Moore President, Iota Lambda Omega Chapter President, Pearl Foundation, Incorporated Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated www.pearlfoundationinc.org www.akaiotalambdaomega.org Dear Members and Cherished Supporters, It is our pleasure and honor to present our 2020 Pearl Foundation, Inc. scholarship, and book awards. Recognizing the need for funding options and the ever-increasing cost of higher education, the foundation established a scholarship program for graduating seniors who live in Howard County many years ago. Each year we are honored to be able to present over $20,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors who reside in Howard County. This year, thanks to our very generous donors, we are ecstatic to present $54,000 (bold the dollar amount) in scholarship and book awards. We are pleased to continue the legacy of supporting our students throughout their post-secondary pursuits and we are very proud of this year’s recipients. The class of 2020 is unstoppable. It was a pleasure getting to know them by reading their applications. We know that this year was a difficult and trying time for our senior class of 2020 but not even a pandemic can stop them. They have had to charter waters never chartered before, adjust to a new way of learning, socializing, and living. They have persevered through a time they could have never expected and navigated a “new norm” in making their senior year a memorable one, and have let nothing stop them from achieving their dreams. These are a very talented group of young people with very diverse interests and we know they are going to do wonderful, extraordinary and exciting things and the opportunities will be endless for them. We look forward to hearing about their successes in the future and wish them nothing but the best. We are extremely honored to introduce you to our amazing 2020 Pearl Foundation scholarship and book award recipients. Warmly, Ms. Colleen Ratliffe, Pearl Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Chairman Ms. Mia Winkley, Pearl Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Co-Chairman

HISTORY OF THE IOTA LAMBDA OMEGA CHAPTER

Iota Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered on Saturday, October 7, 1972. Twenty-three members of the Sorority were the charter members at the time. Since Iota Lambda Omega Chapter was chartered, it has continued the tradition, “service to all mankind” of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., in Howard County. In the county, the Chapter has provided a broad range of service-oriented programs for children and adults. The programs include: oratorical contests, career assessment programs for high school girls, tutorials, expungement fairs, mentoring and leadership programs for girls in middle school, an annual talent show for youth, black history programs and celebrations for children and adults, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, clothes, food and funds for families in need, meals for the homeless shelters, voter registration drives, art shows for black visual artists, and economic, financial, safety, and disaster preparedness workshops. Since its chartering in 1972, Iota Lambda Omega Chapter has grown from twenty-three members to over two hundred members. In 1978, the Chapter became the sponsor of Lambda Chapter, the undergraduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Maryland. The Chapter has continued the tradition of the Sorority, serving the needs of the community. http://akaiotalambdaomega.org
