59 We have knitted hats in Sweden for almost 120 years. Our company, Sätila of Sweden, was founded in 1896 in the small village of Sätila, on the countryside of southern Sweden. Since that November day, we have designed, produced and supplied knitted hats, scarves and mittens, all made in Sätila. And, we still do. At the same exact location.
Johannes Nilsson was the founder of Sätila of Sweden. Johannes bought his very first knitting machine to the factory and carried it by steam-boat and horse and wagon to Sätila. The machine was delivered in pieces and assembled at the knitting factory.
Since then, the knitted hat has been the “main product” for Sätila. And it still is. The entire Sätila collection is based on Nordic tradition, authentic craftsmanship, a passion for beanies, an environmentally friendly approach, social responsibility and a desire to live an active life.
Ingemar Stenmark, the well-known alpine skier from Tärnaby in northern Sweden, was important to Sätila’s growth. When Stenmark raced during the 1970s, all of Sweden stopped and held its breath. We produced the Stenmark hat. A knitted hat with homemade patterns from village of Tärnaby. It was a success. Today, we still produce some of these retro hats.
Since the 1970s, much has happened. The hat has become an important and obvious part of our wardrobe. The hat is no longer simply a practical piece of headwear – it is a part of your image and says who you are. The materials of today are carefully chosen for their performance, quality, sustainability and feel. We have a large collection and the perfect hat for all kinds of activities.
Working with Sätila is very easy. We still have our production in Sweden and you can actually see the name of each knitter in every hat!
