Know-How and Tradition: Technical Textiles from the Neckar-Alb Region What’s the future worth if you don’t invest in it? One region, three areas of strength • Businesses that are world market leaders. Perfectly networked sectors. Young, highly qualified and motivated employ- ees. Stuttgart Trade Fair and the Airport are right around the corner. • Universities of international repute and with best ties to economics, research on a world-class level. • Idyllic valleeys, rugged rocks, mountains, castles, lively cities. www.neckaralb.de www.kinderbetreuung-neckaralb.de www.bildungsportal-neckaralb.de Preface The significance of technical textiles has increased rapidly over the past few years. In Germany alone the producti- on of technical textiles has grown by approx. 40% since 1990. During this time German companies have establis- hed the leading position in this segment with an internati- onal market share of currently 45%. The Neckar-Alb region has always been the main textile hub, and it is still home to many major textile compa- nies today. The region also has several higher education establishments as well as private and public research and development institutes. These include the Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering (ITV) in Den- kendorf, the Technology and Development Centre (TEZ) of Groz-Beckert in Albstadt, the Technology Workshop (Tech- nologiewerkstatt) for Technical Textiles in Albstadt and the Research Association for Textile Technology Albstadt (FTA). The region thus offers great potential and meets all the requirements to benefit from the technical textiles growth sector in the long term. Dr Thomas Lindner is the chairman of the management board of Groz-Beckert KG and president of the German machinery and plant manufacturing association (VDMA).
