WEEKLY MEDLEY August 11, 2019 Time to Roll your Eyes:

A tour guide was showing a tour group around Washington, D. C. The guide pointed out the place where George Washington supposedly threw a dollar coin across the Potomac River. "That's impossible," said the tourist. "No one could throw a coin that far!" "You have to remember," answered the guide, "a dollar went a lot farther in those days." Biblical Quote:

“If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” (Mt 17:20) Quote:

“The noblest power of man is reason. The highest goal of reason is the knowledge of God.” (St. Albert the Great) Q and A:

Q: Can we know the existence of God by our reason? A: Yes. Human reason can know God with certainty. (CCC 31-36, 44-47) and Feast Days for the Week:

2 Father PJ’s Letter

Dear Friends in Christ,

Peace and Joy to you and your loved ones!

Just by way of an announcement, August 15th is the Feast of the Assumpon of Our Lady. It will be this coming Thursday. We have a 5 P.M. Vigil Mass at St. Jerome’s Church on August 14th. On August 15th, we have an 8:30 A.M. Mass at St. Jerome’s Church and a 9 A.M. Mass at St. Mary’s. At 5 P.M. that aernoon, we will have the Cohort 17 Mass at St. Mary’s in Deal. Our priests from our neighboring parishes will concelebrate and we will have representaons from our other parishes. The blessing of the waters will took place aer the Mass and the procession. A light recepon will follow at the renovated St. Mary’s Church Hall post-flood issues. I thank Sister Elizabeth Dalessio for managing this project. She really wears more than a dozen hats, other than her Filippini headgear. Big thumbs up here. Thanks, Sister!

A word from our Sponsor – Jesus: Much more will be required of the person entrusted with much and sll more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more. That is taken from our Sunday readings this weekend. We are all called to be responsible stewards, carefully using the gis, resources and talents we have for the needs of the have-nots.

My visits to Mission lands always give me the awareness and realizaon of the blessings the good Lord has given me. With that realizaon, however, comes the fear that somemes, I am not using what I have to the fullest potenal. He, who has given us more than enough, is asking us to give not just from our enough, but from what we have. That means asking us about our comforts, our conveniences, our securies. That means asking us what we are doing with these comforts, conveniences and securies. Wow. And to reiterate what Jesus says, “more will be required of the person entrusted with much.”

If we are entrusted with much, do join me in reflecng inwardly what we are all doing with them. Yes, with the much that we have.

It takes a lot of faith for us to give out, especially from our needs. St. Paul, in the Second Reading this weekend, reminded us of ’s exemplary faith, “by faith Abraham, when put to the test, offered up .” His faith was so strong that he put his trust in God. God will find a way to undo what he was asked to. This Abraham believed.

May we be strong enough in faith and giving in love that when our Master comes, we will be ready.

God loves you always and in all ways.

Fr. PJ
