Re: On-campus Charter Dinner

As you can see in the announcement that appears in this edition of Campus News, Charter Week will be upon us soon. The on-campus Charter Dinner will be held from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2000.

If you would like to be a guest chef at the dinner, please contact me by Monday, March 20th at either xl269 or [email protected] to sign up. This year chefs will help make wraps, serve salads, dip strawberries, torch creme brulee, etc.

Thanks very much. Everyone seems to enjoy the event and, in particular, likes to see the guest chefs working.

All Faculty at La Salle University

The Faculty Senate invites you to join us for the first faculty round table tentatively titled the "NO-TECH CHATROOM" on

Friday, March 3, 2000, beginning at 2:30 PM until 4:00 PM in the Faculty Dining Room, Student Union Building.

We will have an informal get together with discussion, wine, and appetizers. This will be the first of many scheduled events where faculty have an opportunity to share their own experiences with sabbaticals, projects, international tours, collaborative works, or presentations. We will alternate times for these socials with morning and afternoon sessions. We are open to suggestions for topics and encourage all of you to attend. We hope that you will plan to spend a short time in the afternoon with your colleagues, enjoy the refreshments (compliments of the Provost), and meet others in a comfortable environment. Keep watching your e-mail. Further details on this session will follow. Office for University Advancement

Dear La Salle Community,

I want to let you know about the changes that will soon occur in our former alumni quarterly, now called La Salle Magazine.

The Office of University Communications is assuming responsibility for the magazine, and is in the process of creating the first issue for 2000. From that office, Executive Director Ray Ulmer and Publications Manager Maureen Piche are overseeing the production. In addition, an advisory committee has been appointed to consult with Ray and Maureen as they refine the new look and tone for the magazine.

The committee includes: Brian Elderton, university advancement; Ray Ricci, enrollment services; Greg Bruce, school of business; Zane Wolf, school of nursing; Joe Cicala, student affairs; Rich DiDio, school of arts and sciences; Bud Dotsey, alumni relations; and Pete D ’Orazio, athletics.

The magazine will widen its focus - still covering alumni news, but increasing the amount of cam pus-wide news and features. Our goal is to make the magazine more inclusive - promoting all of the good things taking place here today - and we know there are many.

We hope you will keep the magazine in mind the next time you find out about any campus-related news, whether it’s a story about a talented student, an innovative new program, ground-breaking research by one of our professors, or the success of one of our alumni. We invite you to pass on your suggestions to Ray, Maureen, or any other member of the committee.

Please help us make La Salle Magazine the best representation of all the hard work we do at this university to provide a quality Lasallian education for our future alumni. We want to get the word out there to our 40,000 readers.

Warmest regards,

Brian Elderton Vice President University Advancement

Date: March 3 , 2000

After over ten years of service to La Salle University, Peter Vernon has decided to pursue other career opportunities.

Peter began his career with the department when it was opening the Food Court in 1990. Then approximately three years later he was promoted to his current position of Assistant Director.

During his tenure with the department Peter has contributed towards the opening of our coffee bar in Backstage (Life's Perks), the creation of the Union Market, the development of a Concessions team to serve home football and basketball games as well as most recently the roll out of the "Olney Express" coffee cart.

Known for his creative and artistic skills his dedication and commitment to the department and the University will be deeply missed.

Food Services will host a reception on Friday March 10th @ 4:00 p.m. in Backstage to say good bye and wish Peter well. If you are available please stop in. Office for University Advancement

Re: 111 Students

Over the past several weeks and continuing this week, Student Health Services has been seeing a large number of students who are ill with influenza or similar illnesses. Many of these students have high fevers, coughs, body aches, nausea and vomiting. The treatment is primarily supportive. We recommend they stay in bed, drink plenty of fluids and take ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).

We want to remind you that we continue to have a N O NOTE POLICY in Student Health Services. Students should not be expected to produce a "sick" note. Students are responsible for their schoolwork and they should work out any conflicts with you. The only time Student Health Services writes excuse notes is in the event of extended confinement or hospitalization.

Any questions, please call Student Health Services Ext. 1565. UPCOMING EVENTS
