Officers of the UNICEF Executive Board, 1946–2020 Since 1994, the work of the UNICEF Executive Board has been coordinated by the Bureau, comprising the President and four Vice-Presidents, who represent the five regional groups. From 1946 to 1993, the officers of the Executive Board formed a Governing Council that included the Chairman and four Vice-Chairmen.1 BUREAU (SINCE 1994) 2020 H. E. Dr. Khalil Makkawi Lebanon 18 Mr. Dino Beti (Switzerland) succeeded Mr. Ian Top Christensen (Denmark) on 1 July 1996. 19 Mr. Hicham Hamdan (Lebanon) succeeded Ms. Mitra Vasisht (India) in June 1996. 20 At the first regular session of 1994, in compliance with General Assembly resolution 48/162 of 20 December 1993, the Executive Board agreed that the Chairman of the Governing Council would be known as ‘President’ of the Executive Board and would serve a term of office for a full calendar year. Ms. Anna Semamba Makinda (United Republic of Tanzania), who had been elected for the period 1 August 1993 to 31 July 1994, served as Chairman until February 1994, when she became President, serving until 31 December 1994. 21 From 1967 to 1993, Governing Council terms were from 1 August to 31 July, and the officers included the Chairman, four Vice- Chairmen, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Programme Committee and the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Administration and Finance.
