Gym Masses

Presider: 9am - Fr. Jim DeBruycker 7am and 11am - Fr. James Cassidy

Alleluia! Alleluia!... Our Highest Praise is raised today on this Easter Sunday! Thank you gospel singer Robert Robin- son, the SJA choir directed by Anna Vagle, our band-leaders, George Pastors 2 Cents From: Fr. Jim DeBruycker

Maurer and Tommy Barbarella, A parishioner recently gave me a Certificate of Appointment as the Assistant Chaplain in Chief trombonist, Jim TenBensel, singers of Flagellatum Unicum, the society for self-flagellating Catholics. The admonition of appointment and instrumentalists, Dik Hedlund, states: “You have shown by your example the merits of perpetual self-; mental and Jordan Hedlund, Peter Johnson, emotional beatings are even more efficacious than physical blows for subjugating the urges Steve Kremer, Rachael Kroog, Cyril thrust upon us by the Evil One.” Paul, Christina Pawlowski, Fred Vagle and Lee Vague. Your joyful noise has I earned this honor by repeating the epitaph, “Lord, I am not worthy” at Mass and not believing added great joy and hope to this celebra- when the paper towel manufacturer says, “Giant Roll: now 8 = 12”. I admit that basically at heart tion of Easter Sunday at St. Joan of Arc. I am a Lutheran. With Luther I believe in the total depravity of man. Why else would someone try to make me believe 8 = 12? Family Mass One of my great pet peeves is people who change the word “wretch” in Amazing Grace to He is risen! Alleluia! Join us today at 9 or “someone like me.” John Newton, who wrote the lyrics to Amazing Grace, knew what a wretch 11am in the church for our joyful Easter he had been. Brutalized as a youngster, he passed that ‘gift’ on to the crew of his ship and his Sunday celebration when Jesus and the cargo of slaves, whom he abused and murdered in every conceivable way. The ‘amazing grace’ HOBT animals return for a resurrection is that he broke out of incredible evil to see the beauty of who he was and could be. dance and Farmer Rick brings his baby animals to celebrate new life! Newton spent the rest of his life in service to the very people he had once abused and he worked to end in Britain and its colonies. He discovered the ‘original blessing’ through Saving Seats: Out of courtesy to others conversion and God’s grace. attending Mass, please don't save multi- ple seats. Thank you. I believe the Easter experience lies in our ability to change. We can become that person we and God want us to be. I guess I really don’t believe in the total depravity of humanity rather that a speck of God’s original grace still resides in our soul, waiting to be activated. But I also believe it is not overly self-flagellating to occasionally say, “Lord, I am not worthy of such a great gift”. Maybe I should say, “I can hardly believe I am worthy”. It is nice to know that even the pope has to admit to this in humility.

So, I will continue to champion the self-flagellating Catholics, continue to not believe that 8 = 12, and continue to celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ in the Cross.

Happy Easter from this wretch to someone like you.
