Student Movements: 1968, 1981 and 1997 the Impact Of
Student Movements: 1968, 1981 and 1997 The impact of students in mobilizing society to chant for the Republic of Kosovo Atdhe Hetemi Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of East European Languages and Cultures Supervisor Prof. dr. Rozita Dimova Department of East European Languages and Cultures Dean Prof. dr. Gita Deneckere Rector Prof. dr. Rik Van de Walle October 2019 i English Summary This dissertation examines the motives and central visions of three student demonstrations, each taking place within different historical and political contexts and each organized by a different generation of Kosovo Albanian students. The years 1968, 1981 and 1997 witnessed a proliferation of student mobilizations as collective responses demanding more national rights for Albanians in Kosovo. I argue that the students' main vision in all three movements was the political independence of Kosovo. Given the complexity of the students' goal, my analysis focuses on the influence and reactions of domestic and foreign powers vis-à-vis the University of Prishtina (hereafter UP), the students and their movements. Fueled by their desire for freedom from Serbian hegemony, the students played a central role in "preserving" and passing from one generation to the next the vision of "Republic" status for Kosovo. Kosova Republikë or the Republic of Kosovo (hereafter RK) status was a demand of all three student demonstrations, but the students' impact on state creation has generally been underestimated by politicians and public figures. Thus, the primary purpose of this study is to unearth the various and hitherto unknown or hidden roles of higher education – then the UP – and its students in shaping Kosovo's recent history. -
Research Article in Fatos Arapi's Pen, Words Acquire Extraordinary
March 2018 e-ISSN: 1857-8187 p-ISSN: 1857-8179 Research Article Linguistics Language and Style in Literary Creativity Keywords: lexical layer, word formation, of Fatos Arapi phraseology, onomastics, figurative language, connotation. Asime Feraj University “Ismail Qemali” Vlore. Albania. Silvana Koço University “Ismail Qemali” Vlore. Albania. Abstract Fatos Arapi is one of the most outstanding writers in contemporary Albanian literature. His contribution to our literature and national culture is of great value. Grealty appriciated, it has become a reference point for new creators. The word at his pen, from poetry to poetry, decade by decade, from one period of creativity to another, gains extraordinary dimensions. He is the poet of figurative transformations of Albanian word and he can be rightly called the poet of metaphor in our literature. Appreciating and estimating F. Arapi creativity for his linguistic wealth, thematic diversity, and the depth and breadth of expression, I have decided to highlight this linguistic richness, in the belief that this study will complement the appraisal made so far to F. Arapi figure, both in literary and linguistic terms. The researches on lexicon- semantic features that are typical of the language of the author‘s work determine even the nature of the stylistic nature and features of his artistic creativity. work, is not only of extraordinary value, but also it reveals many interesting phenomenon that can be studied from many points of view. Linguistic creativity, the use, rephrasing, regional word leaning towards standard language constitute a linguistic monument. In Fatos Arapi‘s pen, words acquire extraordinary dimension, from one poem to another, from one decade to another, from one literary stage to another. -

It is a short historic view of this genre, where the most essential points of formation of which are touched, from the first novel to the contemporary. Trying to give a glimpse of the story of the Albanian novel, besides beginning the cultivation of this genre in our literature, we have also talked about the novel written during our national and post-Renaissance period, about the novel written after the end of the Second World War, the Albanian novel, written and published in Kosovo, as well as the novel written in Albania after the collapse of the dictatorial communist system. So we tried to include almost all literary and historical periods, so that our brief panorama is more clear and comprehensive. In a word, we tried to make a genre history that is great for studying our literature, especially the Albanian novel. Keywords: Albanian novel, brief overview, genre history, comprehensive overview 1. Introduction The formalist researcher, Mikhail Bahtin considers the novel as the only genre always being in the process of developing, and never as a completed one.”ii According to this point of view, however, we can say that even our novel is a literary structure that is taking shape differently every day. -

Media as a challenger of state genocide Safet Zejnullahu UBT – Institution of Higher Education, Kalabria, 10000, Prishtina, Kosovo [email protected] Abstract. The media and state leadership have a strong and inseparable link in the history of the media. In totalitarian regimes, the government finances and controls the media, in regimes with apartheid elements the government closes the media that does not like, persecutes and kills journalists. In democratic societies, state leadership and the media have a financial connection in most of the cases. This paper will address a very specific media situation, that of Montenegro in 1999. Montenegro was part of the former Yugoslavia, which was committing genocide against Kosovo Albanians. But the main media in Montenegro, starting with the public broadcaster, the radio as part of it, and the main newspapers, marked a rare case when the media does not obey the government but takes the side of people in need - Kosovar refugees who, fleeing extermination, sought refuge in Montenegro. -

Part One [The interviewer asks the speaker to introduce himself, his family and the rreth1 he grew up in. The question was cut from the video-interview] Behram Hoti: I am the son of Hasan Jashari. Who is Hasan Jashari? Hasan Jashari from the village of Likovc in Skenderaj, born in 1916, remains a hasret2 son with three sisters. Since the times were difficult, there was the Serbo-Croatian-Slovenian Monarchy, but the Monarchy of Serbia was ruling in Drenica, when he was two, the Serbian gendarmerie, supported by Albanian-speaking informants, kidnapped his father, that is, Jashar, and suffocated him and threw him into the plum trees well, about one hundred meters from his kulla.3 And as a sign for the corpse to be found more easily when someone looked for him, because it’s normal to look for a person who is missing, on top of the well, the plums well, because the garden was full of plums, they left the tobacco box… so that when someone who came to drink water here, or look for him, would see the tobacco box and say that he was murdered here, committed suicide or drowned in the well.
